We just started trying this month.
Sorry but twins aren't completely luck of the draw. Identical twin are luck of the draw, yes. Fraternal twins however can be hereditary & passed down on the mothers side. I am not saying that if you are a fraternal twin or they run in your family that you are going to end up with twins but it does increase you chances, compared to those where it doesn't run in their family.
I have no idea... however, I saw this sort of question posted under the pregnancy forum for the doctors to answer a few weeks ago. I didn't look to see if it was you or what they said, but you may want to check it out.
There is no way to know your chances. It's luck of the draw. I wasn't expecting to have twins. Never thought I would. I did. Just one of those things that's like BAM two babies.
if you release more than one egg every cycle, then, statistically speaking, your chances of getting pregnant (with at least one baby) should be higher.
interesting!
how long have u been trying?
Like I said, I don't know how much of that is true :). Its a good questions though.
Thanks for the info!!! I don't think asking a doctor is worth $22 :) Especially since it isn't going to change whether I end up with twins or not. I was just more curious then anything. Thanks so much though!!!
No sorry. There is a doctor forum around. I think it's $22 a question? Maybe less. This one is just plain members, though some have a degree or study those things.
The reason I ask is because I know i have an increased chance for twins but i was wondering how increased the chance was. Plus I haven't been on this site before & I thought my question was going to be answered by a expert (doctor, etc). I do enjoy getting comments on what other people have found. So thank you!!
From what I read I believe the whole skip a generation is just a myth. Plus you said your mom's sisters are twins, not your mom. I don't think it increases your chances much if your Aunts are twins. And are your aunts fraternal or identical twins because identical twins are completely random & it doesn't increase your chance of having twins if identical twins are in the family. Even if you do have a genetic predisposition to have twins, it doesn't mean no matter what you are going to end up with twins. Your chances are just increased.
That's true. Only the mothers genes affect chances of fraternal twins, but identical twins are not hereditary, occurring in 3 of 1000 births/pregnancies. I'd say your chances are higher, but I'm unsure of how much.
ok so you know more then i thought... then why ask?
It wasn't a one time thing because my mom is a triplet & I am a fraternal twin. So it happened two generations in a row. From what I have read, the chance of identical twins is completely random but fraternal twins can run in families on the mother side. Because you can have a genetic predisposition to release two eggs at once.
I was always told that it skipped a generation. My mom has twin sisters. My mom has me and my brother, but we are not twins. So if what I have been told is right, I would be having twins when I get pregnant. but I don't know how tru that statement is.
Also,..... are your grandparents twins? great grandparents??? If its a one time thing then its different.
I have no idea. I read somewhere that the chances of concieving twins is only slightly higher then in someone where twins do not run in the family.... so i dont know... maybe??!!
