considering induction at 39 weeks

I will be 37 weeks tomorrow and baby is estimated at almost 7 lbs. My dr said i can be induced at 39 weeks and I'm thinking to go for it since I will having her vaginally she could be 9 lbs by 40 weeks. Eeek! Being induced kind of makes me iffy but i trust my dr completely and I have already dilated 1 cm. Thoughts?

I was induced with my first, was 1cm dilated and didn't not dilate after that at all after 26 hours ended up having a c-section. But I was induced due to high blood pressure. my personal opinion/experience, induction is not the best route if you can avoid it. Do what's best for you though, and good luck!! You're almost there!!

I was induced with my second.  I found it a good experience.  I showed up at the hospital at my 'appointment' time, was admitted and things got going.  My epidural was started when I decided it was time and it was an easy birth. No issues and a pleasant experience.  My first baby was much more difficult.  I labored at home and it was what I'd describe as awful.  I had latent phase labor that seemed to go on forever.  Okay, it was two full days but it was a nightmare.  I ended up getting horribly dehydrated due to a pain reaction of vomiting with the pain of contractions.

So, if your doctor is comfortable inducing you, I would think it isn't a bad route to go as long as you aren't opposed to that.  Again, I had a really good experience.  good luck

I personally  don't think a big baby should be a reason to induce, those measurements are almost always off, and you body was made for this I watched my best friend get induced and she was in labor for over 18 hours with her second she went natural and it was only 10 hour and my first was self induction with castor oil and I was only 7 hours

I'm a week behind you, will be 36 weeks tomorrow, and had an ultrasound this past Wednesday that estimated baby to be 7lb14oz already with more than four weeks to go. I think that when my body says it's time to have this baby I'll go into labor. My midwives have told me that due to my gestational diabetes they aren't going to let me go past 41 weeks but until then my body is in charge. I don't want to choose my baby's birthday if there's no medical necessity for.doing so. Am I nervous? Yes. But I birthed my first child at 40w1d, a full 9lbs, totally med-free with no problems... the body was built to have babies! Trust that your body knows what to do. I'd wait until at least your due date if not later before considering an artificial induction - those weight estimates aren't all that accurate anyway, your baby could be much smaller than that! If you've already started dilating, it's worth it to give your body the chance to get started on its own instead of forcing it. Pitocin is really hard on the body as mentioned above.

My son was born via induction at 36 weeks. He was 8 lbs. It really wasnt bad pushing him out and im a very petite woman. I will however tell you that my induction was no joke. It hurt a lot worse than having my first naturally. The pitocin really caused me extremely painful and close contractions. I personally would choose to wait if i were you but I totally understand that your ready to get this baby out. If you do decide go do it, go in with an open mind considering you may have a quick induction, or it may be very slow. Mine took 3 days. Good luck! :)
