i am nearly 6 months pregnant and have a really annoying dry cought, have had it for about 3 - 4 days now! and it is starting to make my ribs hurt, my partner is worried it is harming the baby. all i have taken is glycerin pastles but they don't help much! is it worth going to the doctors or is that just wasting there time! it is starting to get me down now.

is there anything else i can take/do?
i can't afford to miss much more work!

I have a cold... and before that an allergy like Riot. Personally my dr. ok'd Robutussin(sp?) just normal robutussin.. nothing else in the med..

I also drink hot tea at night, and a benadryl helps to dry things up too.(benadryl or generic form diphenhydramine(sp?) is safe... I just posted on this topic on another post)

BTW I've had some sort of cough for about 2 yrs.. it's post nasal drip from allergies.. but when I get a cold I sound like a donkey smoker.. lol, I'm sick right now and have been hacking since last Wed. Ppl at my work are scared of it and I have to reassure them that it's not contagious. (I've had all sorts of exam's mri's etc.. dr's say it's allergies!)

I have allergy-brought on post nasal drip which causes me to get a deep like angry conjested cough and a VERY itchy through every late spring/early summer.
Thankfully it's passed but I was in SO MUCH PAIN!

But I made best friends with ICE ICE ICE water... and vicks vapor rub!!

Also try some green tea [non caffinated]] with some honey.
Or even a humidifier for your bedroom for night time.

I have one in my bedroom and it's worked WONDERS for me...
And the funny thing is... my room is in the basement... it's amazing.

I'd call a pharmacist and ask for their advice about any medications you can safely take while pregnant...however, most cough medicines loosen up the congestion in your lungs so you can get it up and out and stop the cough and if you said that it was a really dry cough, it could be something different that you might want to see a doctor for...I guess this doesn't really answer your question but I'd start with a pharmacist and see what they say.
