dieting/working out while BFing

What's ok/not ok to do while BFing? I really would like to start losing all this extra weight, I want to drop 40 lbs. I know it'll take a while, and I'm gonna start a workout routine when I get my ab rocker, BUT I don't know what's ok. I don't want anything I do to affect being able to BF. I'd rather be overweight and BF than be back in my "skinny" jeans. I'm trying to start eating healthier (as I eat pizza, lol), but how much should I be eating a day? I don't know how many calories a day I should be eating, or any of that. I don't always make healthy choices, but mostly I do. If we can afford another, I want to start TTC again in about a year, but I told DH I want my body back first. It's always been hard for me to lose weight and keep it off, I've never been successful except after joining the army. But after having my first, I'm back to more than where I started. SO what can I do to lose weight AND continue BFing and keeping my supply up. I'm already drinking Mother's Milk Tea every day, have been since I had Aubryana Dec 7, just to keep my supply up.

My OB told me that breastfeeding is actually a good way to loose the pregnancy weight, so I don't think you should worry too much about your food intake. Try to aim for a balanced diet and don't starve yourself. I've found that eating more but smaller meals during the day works better than eating 2-3 big meals.
As for exercise, I've been going to the gym 2,3 times a week and doing sit-ups, etc at home and I've seen no effect on my milk supply. Hope his helps!

This is a website I found while pregnant. It is pretty informative on the subject of how many calories to eat while nursing (take out the spaces :o).

I do know you still need 2500 calories a day because it takes a lot of calories to make milk. I wouldn't nessesarily diet, but rather just eat more healthy. I've lost around 50 pounds since I gave birth (I was 147 and now I'm at 98 pounds) and I eat 3-4 meals a day. I've stopped eating junk and over eating as well. (Junk food has little appeal to me now) The important thing in keeping your supply is to not starve yourself though. Drink lots of water and avoid sodas and such. Good luck!!!
