You start ovulating somewhere in the middle of your cycle. You can count forward from the first day of your LMP or back from the first day of your next MP. The best way to do it is count back from the first day of your next MP. The reason being is that the follicular phase (from the first day of your LMP until the day you ovulate) is unsteady. The luteal phase (from the day after you ovulate until the start of your next MP) is very constant in most woman. It is usually 14 days but can range from 12-16 days. It has to be at least 10 for the fertilized egg to implant on the uterine wall. Supposedly you should chart your basal body temp for a couple cycles to know when you ovulate. You can use a variety of techniques to determine when you are ovulating. You find the o date, then wait til your next MP, the number of days between these two days is the length of your luteal phase. Make sure it is 10 days or longer. Whatever it is, it shouldnt change from cycle to cycle like your follicular phase could. If you are trying to get pregnant, take your average cycle length and subtract off the length of your luteal phase and then try to concieve 3 days before and 1-2 days after (for varying follicular phases) that date. I'm a guy, and not a doctor, so I don't have experience...just alot of research.

You said that you usual start your period every 28-32 days and when you took the pregnancy test it came out negative. Did you go to the clinic afterward just to make sure that the test was accurate?

The first day of your period is Day 1 of your cycle. You usually ovluate about 14 days before your next period is due, so it  depends on how long your cycles are. On a 28 day cycle, you would probably ovulate on Day 14, give or take a couple of days.

The first day of your cycle (CD1) is the first day of your period, even if it's light spotting. Then based on a 28-day cycle, you ovulate around days 13 or 14. It's really a strange science, but those are the basics.  If your cycle is pretty regular, then you could shoot for the 9th.
