echogenic bowel

it was found that echogenic bowel was seen in altrasound done at 19 weeks... the reports of TORCH was negative, trisomy 21 and 18 reports are also normal...the baby's growth and all other things are verymuch normal...

this is my 3rd babay, in first baby there was problem of hursprung and in second baby we had urinery obstruction...
we had tested for CF doing amnio for 2nd baby and found normal... and also cariotype was normal for the same...

but now i am really scared about echogenic bowel, looking at history doc says there are chances that the baby will have CF or cromosomal abnormality, and some times they say echogenic bowel may be just a false alarm...
kindly advise and support me...

Sorry to hear about all the stress your having to go through. We had an ultrasound come back with an ecogenic bowel around 26 weeks and went through weeks of testing and re-testing. In the end it was nothing. Sometimes the baby drinks the amniotic fluid and if there was blood in the fluid it can cause the EC bowel markers on the ultrasound. It stressed me out right up until the day she was born, but like I said in the end everything was normal.

Hope it's a false alarm for you as well! Good luck!

I get the tests done so that the doctor is aware of what he may be dealing with, whether DS or some other abnormality, however after losing a baby in 2002 to a genetic disorder that I had no idea about, I have decided that I NEVER want to know the results of any genetic testing. I will love my baby the same if he/she had DS than if he/she was genetically normal.

Like I said, I had a baby at 32 weeks with a physical genetic disorder, and I loved her with all my heart despite any physical abnormalities. She was beautiful no matter what, and if the good lord decides to gift me with another baby with a genetic disorder, so be it, I will love him/her no matter what!

My 4th baby had ecogenic bowel. I had my triple screen test come back high for my age also. I was told there was a chance my baby had DS. I was so scared! I was given the option to terminate at 20 weeks along!!! That pissed me off. I turned down the amnio because I didnt want to take the risks. She was born at 37 weeks very healthy. She didnt have DS or CF. I had a sweat test done when she was a few months old to rule out CF. So in my case it was a false alarm. Most times if baby has DS there are other soft markers as well. They will probably do repeat u/s's. If it was/is a false alarm the spot will generally get lighter. In my case it got lighter but not towards the end and they told me it was still darker than normal. My daughter had/has some tummy issues but im not sure if they are related or not. Good luck hun! I think we should avoid all those extra test and just let be. They can scare the heck out of you for no reason! But then again they also come in handy and help prepare you for your childs future too:~)
Good luck!
