ffn test

Question

hi, well i had an ffn test done last night at the hospital, i was having painful contractions. so today if had brownish discharge with small chunks of like something(tmi) it looks like cervical mucus to me. has anyone had this? could it be irritation or should i call my doctor? i dnt wanna call my doc for every single thing thats going on... anyone?

I had that test as well and didn't have any spotting. I also get cervical checks weekly, and no spotting from those either. I've had a few cases of spotting (brown and red), but it was just my cervix changing. If it was just brown, it's old, but if it was red at all, I would probably give them a call to see what could be going on. I had the same issue you had with the cervix check. My midwife checks me weekly, so she knows what my body is doing week to week. When I was in the hospital, I went because I was 2cm and the OB was concerned. Then a midwife from the hospital checked me before I went home, and she said I was barely a fingertip dilated and she looked shocked as to why I was even in the hospital. (and her checking me hurt so bad! My midwife never hurts me!)  I was so lost and confused! I knew I couldn't just close up THAT much and even my midwife said you could change from 1/2cm to a 1cm maybe...but that's about it. Now I'm 4cm and have an appt. tomorrow, so we will see if I'm still the same! 
I think you are okay though...unless your contractions come in a pattern and you notice red spotting or bleeding, you should be okay. Just take it easy and don't overdo it.

It's hard to say who is right you really would have to get the same dr to check you to each time to get an accurate reading of where your at. It's also possible that your cervix opened up a bit at the bottom after strong contractions and then closed back up. I've had one nurse check me before and say I was 2cm then go home and the next nurse says I'm at 1cm only an hour later. 

I'd say the discharge you saw today was probably a result of the contractions and exam. If your really worried about it then don't hesitate to call your dr and talk to the nurse that's why we pay them so much ;-)

yes the doctor checked my cervix and im not sure who to believe, i went to hspital last week and the doc on call checked and said i was 2cm and last night a different one said i was still closed...

It's probably not from the test. You might just be losing your mucus plug. Did they check your cervix last night? That can cause some spotting also.
