When I went to my first prenatal appointment.. It was when I was about 8-9 weeks along.. They did a full pelvic exam and pap smear. Had me pee in a cup..... took a little family history. I had already had a referral in for an ultra sound at that point because of dating purposes... Which was scheduled later that day for 3 weeks later, which was when I would have been 11-12 weeks.
I asked about hearing the heartbeat and she said they start that during the 2nd appointment
Like the other ladies said, most doctors will wait till your further. (It's more wise if they wait as well. Early ultrasounds just cause stress and worry most of the time) It's also unlikely you'll hear it so early, but you'll likely see it. It also depends on your insurance like Vacuum said. Some will only do one ultrasound and that's the 20 week one. Others will do as many as you want.
I had my first appt at about 7-8 weeks, and they did an u/s. I don't know if it was b/c I'd had a bit of spotting, or if it was routine. Then the dates from the sono were off by about a week, so I got to have another one a few days later!
With my past pregnancies, though, I only got ONE u/s, around 20 weeks.
I went for my first app at 8 weeks and a few days. They scheduled an ultrasound then fir two days later and I saw the heartbeat.
If u wanna c and hear baby go to er complaining of bad stomach pains. That's What I Did at 6.6 weeks and heard heart beat and saw the little blob
I guess different doctors are all diferrent. When I had my daughter, they did not do an ultra sound until I was further along.
This time around, I had an ultrasound on my first visit. Some doctors perform the ultra sound themselves in their offices. Others have to have them ordered or have you sent to a ultrasound lab. It all depends on the office.
some insurance companies claim to only grant one ultra sound, unless more is medically necessary. I have known women with this insurance & they ALL got more ultra sounds before their due date, so I guess it is usually "necessary".
Sorry this doesn't really give you any straight answer. Call the doc office & find out. If the answer is no, You could always call around until you find an office that does it on the first visit.
