See I'm scared that I'm gonna have to have a c-section  that's like my biggest fear I didn't have gd w my 1st but he was 8.4 Dr thought he was 39 wks when induced me but was 38 according  to all the tests ..so I'm hoping this lo won't be huge.. fingers crossed I can just have him on my own w out induction I'd really like to see the difference such as if laboring is easier less painful not being forced etc. But is that how they check u post pardum by drinking glucola again ? Or do they give u something else ?

That's a big baby .. my son was 8.4 and was technically 38wks gestational age not 39.. so I'm scared this one's gonna be 9 lbs .. I really hope I go on my own .. u have to drink the glucola again after having the baby too ?? Is that how they check you after ?

I had gestational diabetes and I was scheduled to be induced at 40 weeks and 6 days but I actually went into labor on my own the same day I went to the doctors office lol. Right now I am currently at my 6 week post partum visit and I'm being checked for diabetes again.. Yay :( I have to drink the drink all over again

I'm almost 34 weeks now. And the non stress tests and ultrasounds are normal. The stress tests are to monitor the baby's heart rate and the ultrasounds are to keep better track of the baby's development. When you have gestational diabetes, the baby runs a higher chance of weighing over 9lbs, so they monitor it closely. I'm not sure what your doctor will do since you are on metformin. I haven't actually heard too much about that medication. All OB doctors are different, but mine told me that if any medication was needed to control blood sugar levels, instead of a diet just helping, then she would induce. So with that being said, my doctor would probably still choose to induce if I had been on metformin instead of insulin as well. You may just want to talk to your OB doctor about induction. It never hurts to ask!! And I actually was wanting to be induced. I've been trying to be patient, because I want my daughter to be as healthy as possible, but I'm soooo ready to meet her! So as long as my doctor thinks she is healthy and can survive being born early, then I will be all for it! :)

How far along are you ? I start my weekly non stress tests Saturday and also ultrasounds weekly ? Is that normal?. So I prolly won't have to be induced if they keep me on metformin instead of switching to insulin ? Was u wanting to be induced?

My OB doctor did say that she planned on inducing me. She said it would typically be between 38-39 weeks, but I my insulin dosage goes up, the induction date will be sooner. I have weekly non stress tests to monitor the baby's heart rate. I have one next week, then a week after that I have an ultrasound to check how big the baby has gotten. After seeing the ultrasound she will determine a day for me to get induced!

I'm taking insulin for my Gestational diabetes, and my numbers are still sometimes higher than they are supposed to be. When I first found out I had it, I asked my OB doctor if she would induce me. She said the only time they like to induce in that situation is if a diet doesn't help blood sugar numbers, and you need insulin to control it. Which is obviously the case for me. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow, and plan on asking about induction again.

A friend of mine had it and managed it really well and was induced in her 38th week and delivered vaginally, whereas another friend didn't manage it as well and had a csection at 36wks.
