heartburn

I drink a glass of milk every night before I go to bed to help keep the heartburn away. I always wake up like 2-3 hours later and it's sooo bad to the point where I feel like I'm gonna get sick. And i do sleep propped up.. what could I use to gel keep heartburn away for long periods of time?? Without a prescription?

also separate question: I never had heartburn before I was pregnant.. will it go away after I have my baby or am I stuck with it now? :(

Milk is a short term fix but actually makes the body produce more acids shortly after. Stop drinking milk before bed, have a a little walk & take some sort of chew (we have quick eze here in a Australia I see alot of American women talking about tuna) before bed & sleep propped up. It's all you can do unfortunately even some nights these things aren't enough to help me. Lemon water can help too, although it's a acidic fruit it has alakalizing properties which can neutralize then acids :)

Don't drink with your meals, take tums if your uncomfortable with otc meds and the calcium in them are good for you and baby. I've learned that drinking milk will make heartburn and acid reflux worse because your stomach produces more acid to try to get rid of the fatty coating it leaves in your stomach lining.

Dont eat anything spicy or greasy or fatty, don't lay down after eating wait an hour or so, walk before bed, eat a cup of ice before bed or when you have heartburn, drink fat free or 1% milk, take tums, take zantac, also get your gall bladder checked by your doctor you may have gall stones its common in pregnancys.

You may want to try drinking something with acid. I learned I didn't have enough acid by drinking tangerine juice and my heartburn went away. You may want to change whatever you're eating too to see if that helps.
