how often is a miscarriage followed by more miscariages?

im not sure how to word my question but i have had one ectopic pregnancy and now one miscarriage .. how often do woman have more than one miscarriage and is that normal and when should you start looking for a problem.. i have had 2 healthy pregnancys but just wondering what my chances are of lsing another baby? can you just have one miscarriage or dose it usually happen more than once .. im sorry if i confused anyone..

hi all, im 19 and just had my second miscarriage. Im freaking out that i won't be able to have kids. I know im young but that makes me even more worried. If anyone can help me i would really apreciate it as im going out of mind scared. thanks x

i am right there with all you on your worry and fears. ive had two children and then two miscarriages within 8 months of each other and just found out im pregnant...im very early (4wks) and my fears are very dominating b/c my miscarriages occured at 6w3d and 5w2d...my doctor said the same thing as the above posts state...only if 3 m/c in a row occur, then will they start to look for a factor. best of luck!

It's really a random thing unless there is a diagnosable condition.

Hey there, I also suffered an ectopic pregnancy, then followew by a miscarriage, it then took me 8 month's to conceive again, i was told when i found out i was pregnant again that i needed to be scaned early to make sure all is in the "correct" place.... the doctor's think my miscarriage was due to my body not being ready........So maybe give your body time...i have a 3year old and a 2 year old and are 7wk 4 day's at the moment and with finger's crossed it continues that way, but the worry's alway's there...just be paitient with yourself and your body as stress doesnt help....

Thats correct, doctors will start investigating the reason for the miscarriages if there is 3 in a row. Apparently 4% of women have 2 miscarriages in a row, which doesn't seem like much but it is considered common/normal. Apparently only 1-2% of all conceptions go full-term, so if you look at it from that angle miscarriages are very common.

I have had a miscarriage and am now into my second pregnancy - I am 5 weeks, hoping I don't experience another one. You have had 2 healthy pregnancies so I wouldn't worry that anything is wrong

Doctors consider 3 or more miscarraiges to be "out of the norm"  There isn't a lot of rhyme or reason as to how often unless there is a specific factor contributing to them.  There isn't necessarily statistics that can be put down on your chances of miscarrying again as the factors involved are ALL variables.
