inducing labor?

Lots of moms comment about trying methods to induce labor. I'm curious if when inducing by home/natural methods it's more common to feel the water break or contractions first?
We live 3 hits from the hospital so my for sure way of knowing if I'm in labor is my water breaking, I don't want to try at home methods if that's less common.

Very few women's water actually break. Mine broke both times but the doctor told me it wasn't that common. The sure way to know you are in labor is to time your contractions and stay in contact with the hospital and your doctor

I felt contraction when I was in labor with my last two pregnancies the doctor broke my water both times. I didn't use any methods to try to induce labor.
