is it safe???

I'm currently 24Weeks&1Day pregnant. I was wondering if it is safe to sleep on your back. It's the only way I can get comfortable.

My midwife told me not to intentionally sleep on my back but if it happens, it happens. She also said if it is too uncomfortable to sleep,on my side or something put a pillow, behind my back so I a not directly on my back. But she told me it really isn't that big of a deal until you are 30+ weeks.

Like Lilseamonkey said, when you're in labor your not flat on your back. Laying flat on your back when you sleep not only cuts off some of the circulation to your legs, it also affects your baby. That's why your really not supposed to lay on your back for more then 10 minutes or so.

It's cuts circulation off when your baby gets bigger. And when you're in labor/giving birth you do not lay flat on your back. The bed props you up in a semi sitting posting and they place a pillow under your side like I said.  it's just a precaution.

Unfortunately, it only gets more uncomfortable lol. I'm 30 weeks and I hardly sleep with the aches and pains.

What they told me at the hospital and they way they had me lay, was with a pillow under my left side so I wasn't fully on my back and also propped up with pillows behind me

It's recommended that you don't since your uterus puts pressure on a major vein that way. But what you can do, is prop yourself up with some pillows so that your not laying flat but sort of sitting up.
