is my baby alive?

ok here's my story on nov 5th was the begining of my last period. On dec 11th i had a home preg test come up lightly positive. On dec 14th i had my prenatal visit my hcg level was 15,000 the doc did an transvag ultrasound she saw the gest sac and yolk sac. on dec 18 my hcg level was 17,000 so we repeated it on the 21st and it was 30,000. on the 28th i had another transvag ultrasound where they saw the gest sac yolk sac and the doc reported a possible fetal pole and he measured me at 5 weeks 4 days. he stated there was no cardiac activity BUT the patient is not 6 wks yet. later that day the CNP told me i had miscarried and i need to have a D&C i've stayed away from the doc office since then still no bleeding my breasts still hurt every now and then i do get nauseated. my question  is am i crazy to think my baby might still be alive?  how ling does it take to naturally miscarry?  it hasn"t happened yet how long do i wait it out? i'm considering seeing someone else and getting a second opinion it's just been a stressful month and i just want closure now i need to know if i will carry to term or will miscarry soon if anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it thanks

Why are they waiting until Feb 2 to do another US when it is possible that you may need a D&C?

You will be asked to lie down on a couch. A gel is applied to your skin on your abdomen over the area being examined. The gel allows the sensor to slide easily over your skin and helps to produce clearer images. The sensor is held firmly against your skin and moved over the surface.no pain or anything like that.dont worry to much about HCG levels, for some women they can be high others not as high as long as rising this is a good thing.iv had several losses, the baby had died at 7 weeks, but didnt find out until 12 week scan.sickness etc isnt the same for everyone hun, some get no symptoms some have major ones.seek a second opinion before you consider D and C.  they probabley wont do an tummy ultra sound yet, still early, they will get a clearer view by doing an internal scan.tummy ones normally performed at 2 weeks and over.

thank you all for your love and support it helps my see the positive side of things it's pretty hard sometimes when everyone is believing the cnp. so let me tell you all my latest finds! of course everyday i look up numbers and try to find the answer this is what i have concluded.... the first time they did my hcg it was 15,000 four days later it was 17,000 (so that wasn't good) but 3 days later it was up to 30,000 (from my readings doubling every 2-3 days is good) so from my lmp i would have been 5 weeks 5 days but according to my measurements from the us i was 3 weeks 3 days. i've read it is high but when they did the ultrasound the girls did see two spots on the screen the us dr didn't dictate anything about it though maybe they didn't get a pic of it i don't know!!! so now i wonder if it was twins or maybe it was a piece breaking away but if that was the case wouldn't i have miscarried by now and i read this girl went in for her 12 week us they said her baby measured at 5 weeks so she carried it for 7 weeks without expelling it. it seems though you'd get septic from it and show some kinds of signs of sickness but i have nothing i still get nauseated but i blame it on morning sickness. once again give me some advice i don't know what to feel anymore i am so confused and lost

good luck! dont go the d&c route because its too early and its still not 100 percent if your baby is alive or just slow to appear on screen! let your body go the natural route but in my totallly nonmedical opinion it sounds like your baby is just fine! keep us posted!! :)

You do not always need a DNC. they can give you a shot to help. But also my siter was like 4-5 weeks and no baby seen but tissue as her body was absorbiing the baby. It takes a while for your levels to come down form a mc and it took her 2 months. She felt pregnant that whole time.

I do nto see why they thought it was a mc in the first place without falling levels, bleeding or no baby seen and why they have not repeated them, the us and HCG levels to confirm!!!! That is nonesense and I ahve not heard of a dr doing that.

But yes you count conception from the day of your last mentraul period so if you were further and still no heartbeat then the baby is gone.

I would insist on another us!

I'm not sure how you're calculating your dates. If your last period was November 5th, that would put you around 11 weeks today, not 7. Don't forget that pregnancy is calculated from the last menstrual period and not when you got your bfp.

As others have said, you should have seen a heartbeat at your last ultrasound if everything was progressing normally. While there is a chance your dates are off and things are just progressing slower, I wouldn't be surprised if the doctor is right. Your hcg levels are high enough that something more should have been seen...

If you do have a blighted ovum, it sounds like your body isn't recognizing it and a d & c will be your best option. Best of luck to you!

well from my last ultrasound i figure me to be 7 weks today. it's been 3 weeks since the CNP told me i miscarried and to have a D&C.  i went to get a second opinion but communication error i didn't get the info i needed all they did was a preg test and that came up pos still. i still feel nauseated every now and then and my breasts still hurt. if i did have a dead fetus in me for the past 3 weeks i''d be sick by now i have no fever no cramps nothing. so i have an ultrasound on feb 2nd where i'll almost be 10 weeks by then i should know all my answers and finally be stress free.

your dates could be off...all you can know is the date of your last menstrual period..but its unlikely you know when you ovulated unless you were charting it. you wont see a heartbeat at 5 weeks, all i saw was a sac. you have nothing to worry about i would see a different doctor your gonna be fine.

I didnt see heart beat when i was 6 weeks... you cannot say anything about miscarriage at this stage. unless you are having bleeding or cramping wait for another week or two to do US.

i just feel for you hun and hope it is a case of docters misunderstanding, i obviuosly wasnt fully aware that you were able to still have the fetus inside you even if you did miscarry, which i hope in your case isnt the truth, i'll pray for you hun and if it is unfourtunatly bad news just make sure you dont blame yourself and know that another chance will again arise, being preagnant is one of the most amazing things but is also one of the scariest i really hate it that people have to go through this really do i would not know how to cope if it happened to me so i cant imagine what you are feeling i am gonna think positive for you like i did with my friends friend and it turned out alright so i am hopeing the same for you please let me know whats happend and if you need anythink a chat or advice take care

No, a womans body will not always dispell the products of conception if a miscarriage occurs.  Sometimes the body just does not pick up that something has happened.  It's not healthy and can cause major problems like infection if you don't have your uterus cleaned out completely.  It's possible to have a natural miscarriage where your body does all the work, BUT if you HAVE already miscarried it seems unlikely after this time that you will but there is a chance.  You can also have a partial natural m/c meaning your body will dispell some of it but not all and you will need a d & c.  Then there are those instances where your body just doens't do anything and you have to have a d & c.

I sincerely hope your doctor is wrong, but if he isn't and you have miscarried, it may be necessary to have the d & c.  I know it seems like a scary thing but it's really not that bad.  With mine...I went in at my scheduled time, they put me under general anasthesia for the procedure.  When I woke up I cramped some but not too bad, they gave me some meds and told me to take it easy and no sex for 2 weeks.  I know some women are worried about infertility after d & c but in my case I have been pregnant 6 times since mine.

thanks for the support it's been since the 11th of dec that i've known and they told me to get a D&C on the 29th of dec yeah on tues i'm gonna see a different doc according to my ultrasound i'll be 7 wks 4 days they should be able to help me figure out what's up. my biggest question is if i do miscarry the baby will eventually come out right? it seems you can't carry a foreign body inside you forever eventually your body should expell it. this doc really screwed up my head my entire family has believed the doc including my husband so it's just me and my babysitter continuing on to believe it is still alive.  sometimes i doubt myself as well which isn't good for the baby but once again thanks for answering my questions and believing in me

According to your dates you should have been 5 wks weeks when you tested on Dec 11th, that would put you at 7 wks 4 days at the time they did the second u/s on the 28th.  IF your dates are correct they should have seen a fetal pole for DEFINATE and probably a heartbeat as well.  Now, there IS the chance your dates were off some...as in you ovulated later than you thought causing you to test before your period was actually do, which would account for the faint positive on your HPT.  Becuase there IS a chance that was the case it never hurts to get a second opinion.  You can always ask your doc to repeat the ultrasound in another week.  If there is nothing then, you have unfortunately miscarried.

As for natural miscarriage.  For whatever reason sometimes a womans body does not recognize a miscarriage and she continues to carry the pregnancy resulting in the need for a d & c.  This happened to me with my first miscarriage....I had some spotting and went to the ER I should have bee 9 weeks and there was no HB.  The doc gave me the option of waiting or going ahead and having one...I waited 2 weeks and nothing so we scheduled a d & c.

My 2nd miscarriage happened naturally.  I got a light pos HPT but started spotting the next day, I would have been right around 5 weeks.  Doc checked my HCG but it was low, he gave me a shot of progesterone to try and help sustain the pregnancy but it didn't work....approx a week after my pos hpt I started cramping horribly and bleeding heavily.

I ALWAYS think it's best to get a second opinion or wait and repeat the u/s if you have even the smallest feeling that your baby is still ok.  Doctors CAN and HAVE BEEN WRONG.  Don't let them force you into anything until you are certain, BUT at the same time, don't hold onto false hope.  I know this isn't what you were wanting to hear but I try to be realistic...I do hope that everything is ok with your baby and I do believe there IS still a chance that it is.

if i was you hun go to another doctors when i went to appointments at the hospital cause of light bleeding i was 5 weeks then and they dont ultrasound and said sac and everythink was there but no heartbeat when i saw the doctor aftere she made me think that i was gonna miscarry i had to wait 10 days it wasnt till i was 6 weeks 4 days they saw a heart and i am now 19 weeks and babys fine. most doctors these days are insensitive idiots i would wait carry on taking folic acid and see what happens but definatly get a secound opinion i cant see how they can say youve miscarried and you havent bleed i'll be thinking of you stay positive i hope its just them dam doctors getting it wrong again it hasnt just happend to me a woman my friend knows was told she couldnt have children she finnally got preagnant and cus of cramps was rushed to e and r they told her that it wasnt looking good at all turns out they were wrong and the baby is fine so there is still a chance hun how many days ago did they tell you you hads miscarried

Why did they say you have miscarried? You wont see a heartbeat when your as early as you are, i didnt see a heartbeat till i was 6 weeks. Please go and see someone else.

If you weren't even 6 weeks yet you wouldn't necessarily see a heartbeat yet. I'd go get a second opinion.
