thank you so much ladies!! i am def going to have another go at talking to my dr about metformin. i had absoultly no periods for 4yrs, none not even a tiny one, then low and behold sept a year and a half ago i got a period, i swear i thought something was wrong with me!!! my hubby took me to the dr, and he was like emma, you do realise its just a period!! i was so embarressed, well in my defence it had been like 4 yrs since i had had one!!! any way, to cut a long story short, i have had a period every month since, usually around 30-32 days, sometimes it could be shorter, other months it could be longer but it always arrives. i joined the weight forum here, and some of the people there, gave me great times and ideas, and i have started walking simply because its free to do so!!
thanks for all your advice, heres hoping to a bfp when the weight comes off, oh yeah and slimmer healthier me to!!!
i too have PCOS i was diagnosed about 4 years ago. And i just gave birth to my son 2 weeks ago. It is very possible to concieve. What oddly helped me was homeopathic care. I started getting Reiki and relflexogoy to assist my body in getting back into a proper cycle. I did this for a about 3 months and then found out i was pregnant.
I have heat Metformin is a great help.
Good Luck
Oh and join this WONDERFUL Forum here on MedHelp. They helped me SO MUCH and using their support and techniques helped me lose more weight in my life than I've ever been able to lose at one time:

I also joined s park p eople (no spaces) and I started charting my food and it designed workouts tailored for me and told me how many calories burned and how many I needed to burn. I found out I wasn't eating ENOUGH. Yes you can EAT and lose weight! Woo hoo!
Oh and Metformin regulated my cycles! My periods were BAD and all over the place. I regulated to a 32-day cycle. I hope my story wasn't confusing. Basically I feel that weight loss and the medication helped my ovaries do their job.
Metformin can help you lose weight. I don't have insulin resistance that is commonly associated with PCOS but I still take Metformin (aka Glucophage) which is a diabetic drug. I think you need to get a prescrip. Because it can also help your hormones to regulate.
If you have PCOS and are not able to conceive chances are high that you're not even ovulating. If you're not ovulating you cannot conceive. So the point is to get those ovaries working. Get on Metformin!
Okay- so my story. I was diagnosed with PCOS in May 2008. I got on Metformin. After 13 months of trying I finally got a BFP (5 months after starting Metformin). I used Clomid for 2 cycles and decided to stop and focus on weight loss. Lo and behold I got pregnant! It was like the Clomid re-started my ovaries. I did miscarry but that was because I needed to be on progesterone because of having Clomid in the previous cycle.
Well I decided to get back to losing weight. It took 8 weeks to get AF (arrived January 13) after the miscarriage. I lost 8 lbs in January alone. On February 13 I got a positive pregnancy test! I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant. I started taking progesterone as a precaution and things are going great.
It IS possible to conceive with PCOS. You need to get on Metformin and your doctor needs to see if you're ovulating. Losing weight WILL help and you'll be healthier during your pregnancy.
Too bad...I've heard metformin can do wonders for a woman with PCOS. There is another site that I've heard of called soulcysters for PCOS support...you might want to check it out.
Do you like your doctor? Maybe it is time to switch?
my doc has talked about meformin, he hasnt yet put me on it, he wants me to try and lose a bit more weight, he didnt seem to keen on, even though i had reasearched in the internet and took him in the info.
My friend has pcos and her doctor put her on metformin...she still hasn't conceived but it did help her with the weight loss...Are you taking any medications? If not, maybe you could talk to your doctor about this.
