labor signs?

well....this is my first pregnancy.....so i don't really know what to keep an eye out for when labor is setting in or getting close so i'm gonna ask all you wonderful experienced ladies. what was your first clue that you were in labor? no i don't think i am but i know i'm getting close. i'm 2 cm dialated and 90% effaced. i've been having constant pelvic pressure the past week that's been progressivly getting worse. today i actually had some trouble walking around the house. (not the whole day for a little bit i did) i was at target yesterday with my mom when i slipped in one of the aisles. i didn't fall but i did do a bit of a split....which hurt my poor groin muscles. after that the cramping i'd been having all week got worse. which it's kind of a mix between a menstrual type cramp and a constipation cramp. not really one or the other. i just don't know if this is stuff i should be worried about or if it's all normal. my docs don't seem to really pay attention when i talk to them.....so i figured who better else to ask then ladies who went through it already. lol.

thanks for anyone who does respond!!

thanks for those sites michele! i checked them out and i have a few of the signs but not all of them. the pelvic pressure has been getting worse. this morning it hurt so bad i couldn't even roll over to get out of bed and the cramping has been coming and going in waves. it doesn't really stop but it's not constant. now it's just like menstrual cramps. if i wasn't pregnant i'd be running to the bathroom to see if af started....lol. i haven't had a huge change in discharge...there's definately more then normal but not a ton more.

The best advice I have is when something feels "different" or "not right" to get checked...even if it's something you can't explain.  With my oldest I didn't go into labor..had a emerg. c-section.  With my 2nd I was having sporatic contractions...a LOT of blood tinged mucus/discharge.  My water didn't break til I was walking INTO the hospital.  With my 3rd...my water broke at midnight waking me up and I started having contractions regularly.  With my 4th I had sporatic blood tinged discharge and sporatic contractions that varied in intensity for several days before.  I woke up one morning and kept feeling like I was peeing myself and figured my water was leaking but hadn't broken.  L & D checked me and sent me home.  I was the same 2 cm & 50% I was the week before.  I started have MORE contractions tho they werent' very regular and was still leaking something so I went BACK to L & D that afternoon.  There had been a shift change and this time they said I WAS leaking fluid...I was admitted at 3:30, my water broke around 5 and he was born at 6:54.

There really isn't anything specific to watch for....as you can see all of mine happened differently....just stay in tune with your body and when in doubt...it's better to be checked and find it was nothing than to wait and wish you had gotten checked.

Well, for some reason, it * out my web address that I found, but I PMed you a couple of them.  One is specifically for multiples.  Hope it helps to calm you a bit :)  I know you're nervous, but I'm sure you will do great!!

BTS said it perfectly---feels so tight, like an overblown basketball! You'll probably hunch over and it may be difficult to breath and/or talk or even focus on anything.

It was really difficult for me to feel contractions at the beginning. So I'd sit on the couch with my hand on my tummy. Any time I felt my ENTIRE stomach go rock hard, I'd look at the clock and write it down. I'd also write down how long it lasted. Usually baby would have a fit after a contraction (like rolling and pushing because you cannot feel baby during a contraction---your uterus squeezes them).

Don't think worst case scenerio! Trust that your instincts and body know what they are doing!!!

Take a look at this.  I didn't read much of it, but it looked like something that may be of some help to you.

Oh no....I'm sure you don't want it to stop.  LOL!!  I was just saying that about the bath and rest because it's just a way to know the difference between the real thing and false labor.

I am going to see if I can find anything more specific for you and then I will post it here.

Once you are in labor, nothing will stop it naturally.  What I mean is that a bath and rest won't stop the contractions once the "real" ones begin.

Yeah, BTS said it well.  You will feel the pain and at the same time, your stomach will become hard and tight.

Not much longer!!!!!

You will know lol, It's almost impossible not to. The pain is going to be something unlike you have ever felt before (when real contractions start). You will feel you whole tummy go rock solid, like an over blown basketball.

My water never breaks on it's own, but I always knew when it was time by the pain I was in. When it gets to the point where you can't breathe or talk through a cramp....thats a true and painful contraction.

You will be okay my dear, just remember whenever you feel uncomfortable do not hesitate to call your doc, even if he is a bit pissy or rude, it's his job and he will get over it.

Definitely sounds like you pulled something when you fell.

When I went into labor with DD#1 I was experiencing a discomfort that I had not had before. I wasn't in pain, but I was hunched over and kept having consistent contractions. I called the oncall doctor and she told me to head over to the hospital because she thought it was time. I had my daughter in the morning.

With DD#2 I paid a LOT more attention to what I was feeling. The night before I was having contractions 9 minutes apart. I debated going to bed or calling and finally decided to just go to bed. I figured I'd wake up if something were to happen (we live 10-15 minutes from hospital).

When I woke up the contractions were still persistent and closer (I think 4-5 minutes?). So I called the oncall doc and he told me to come in (he was suuuuuch a jerk and acted annoyed). He was supposed to call the hospital before I arrived and he didn't. Anyway, I had my daughter that evening!
