I'm very sorry for your loss as well, usually your doctor gives you a list of foods that you should avoid for risk of getting listeria, its food poisening and does cross the placenta and unfortunatley causes still birth and miscarriage, also included in those foods that the other ladies have mentioned, are smoked mussels/oysters, (canned are ok) , soft cheeses such as brie, camembert, any type of soft serve ice cream/milkshake etc, take care

I am very sorry for your loss of your beloved child.  That must have been terrible.

If you are asking if listeria is like rubella in that if you have had it once, you are immune after that, no it is not, it is a foodborne pathogen.  You won't get it again if you avoid the foods that are most commonly the carriers of listeria.  Get a complete list from your doctor, I think cheese made of unpasteurized milk is also a problem along with the deli meats and undercooked meats.  In the meantime, keep getting tested to see if it has completely left your system.

Listeria I believe is contacted by eating deli meats, hot dogs, etc that have not been heated enough to kill the bacteria.  You most likely will not have it in your next pregnancy but I would ask your dr to be sure.  Sorry for your loss and good luck to you.
