milk supply

I know this isn't the right forum but I feel more comfortable asking questions here...I had my daughter on the 9th and at first I had a really good milk supply where my breast would become engorged every two hours if I didn't pump or feed regularly....and I was pumping 2/3 ounces from each breast every time.....now I can hardly get an half an ounce :(....I try to have my daughter on my breast every two hours but it seems like she gets so irritated because nothing is coming out....I feel like such a failure because sometimes I have no choice but to give her a bottle....my breast don't even feel hard or heavy like they use to and I barley need to pump....what can I do??? I don't wanna lose my supply this quick :'(

I had the same trouble in the beginning. I visited a lactation consultant and it really helped. I was able to see that my baby was actually getting enough milk. They weighed him prior to feeding and then again right after and i could see how many ounces he was getting that way. Baby is MUCH Better at getting milk out than any pump.  My baby was constantly wanting to nurse and then immediately crying. I thought it must be because he wasn't getting enough, turns out it was because he had a milk allergy.  All the dairy i was taking in was tearing his little tummy up. I stopped all dairy and things got normal. I continued to breast feed until he was 18 months!

The above ladies gave great advice. I know it can be tough in the beginning, but be really stubborn about it and stick with it. Also keep in the the more your baby nurses the more milk your body will produce so try not to give formula as I've noticed when baby starts drinking formula theyll consume less breast milk.. Good luck hun

Also, increase your fluid intake and see if that helps. Theres recipes online for lactation cookies that you can eat while bfing to increase supply. I've never tried them, but they're basically oatmeal cookies. Oatmeal is a natural galactalogue which increases supply.

After your milk comes in and the engorgement passes, your breasts wont feel hard anymore. I would suggest calling a lactation consultant to ask about fenugreek and blessed thistle. If you google motherlove more milk capsules, they have great reviews on increasing supply. When I was relactating, I used fenugreek, blessed thistle, and domperidone. Your ob can prescribe the domperidone. There's also a tea called mothers milk tea you can get at gnc or vitamin shoppe and it also helps increase supply, it just tastes awful. Keep pumping and putting her to the breast every two hours or your supply will continue to drop. Definitely call an lc to ask about the dosage of fenugreek, etc. it really helps!

Are you drinking plenty of fluids? Just keep trying to get some out & ask your doctor.

Call your doc. Could be as easy as a thyroid issue. Keep trying. If you had the supply you can get it back. Stay hydrated and well fed!
