mrsa and pregnancy?

My husband and I recently decided we want to start a family together. He has 2 boys from his previous marriage. The youngest has a lot of skin issues and has contracted MRSA. Since meeting my husband, we have all had bouts with boils caused by MRSA. We've tried just about everything.. and we really just deal with them now. Get on antibiotics, put the mupirocin in the nose, etc. I had a couple boils over a year ago.. then didn't have anymore for probably 10 months.. then here in the past 3 months.. I've been treated for 3 spots, and now I've got a couple more. I don't know if there is anything more we can do to get rid of this. But a big concern I have... Is it okay for us to try to conceive?? Even if I don't have any absesses or anything, would it be harmful to the fetus? What about birth and delivery? I read somewhere that people who have MRSA can't have epidurals at birth, is this true? I'm just really scared and concerned. I don't have any children of my own and we very badly want to have at least one together. I just want something to ease my mind! thank you so much for your time and help! Heather

I had actually contracted MRSA when I was 8 months pregnant from a hospital bed when getting an ultrasound, I was put on medicine and after about a week of horrible pain I had to go to the ER and get it drained and packed which was terrible. I still to this day say itwas he worse pain I have every delt with. I have been told by my dr that once you get MRSA it lays dormant in your system and I am now 7 weeks pregnant almost and the dr doesnt seen concerned at all. With my first pregnancy I had also received an epidural so I dont believe that its true that you wont beable to get one. Good luck!

I'm not sure.  I too suggest you discuss this with your doc.

This is something you need to discuss with your OB.
