Private message.

It's not bad to hold on to hope. The best way to prepare is usually hope for the best but prepare for the worst. Based on everything you've posted, as well as all the dates, you're measuring at least 2 weeks behind what you should if not more. Anything you're confused about, never hesitate to ask. There are no stupid questions.

Unfortunately the whole time while reading this I was thinking miscarriage too. I took progesterone for my last 2 pregnancies. The first one I took it with still ended miscarriage at 10 weeks and the 2nd I am now 26 weeks. If it is a non viable pregnancy progesterone won't help. I went through 6 weeks of daily injections of progesterone to figure that one out. Thankfully my new dr allowed me to take the pills instead of injections but the only thing wrong in my blood work was low progesterone. Baby was measuring fine hcg was good and so with no other issues he gave me that. So it is not a miracle drug but it will help if that is the only problem. My 3rd miscarriage, the one I had the injections with my dr had noticed other issues and didnt tell me. She is no longer my dr.

As for pain with my miscarriages I just curled up on the couch with heating pads and LOTS of Tylenol. They were intense horrible cramps. My dr gave me a prescription for some meds once I got in to see her but it was a rough couple of days.

Sounds like a miscarriage. If you are soaking through more than a pad an hour you need to be looked at immediately. I don't know of anything OTC that will help relieve the pain that you haven't already tried. You can go to the ER and speak to the people there. They will be able to check you out and likely give you something for the pain.

Yeah that makes sense too, we found whatever's in there when I thought I was at 13 weeks. In my case though I also had bleeding in between and the way dates fall doc thinks mine could just be a new pregnancy. He just said a higher-than-normal level would be a red flag because it might indicate that levels had been rising over a longer time period even if it was a slow rise.

I've jsut had a blighted ovum and my levels wernt high at all they did the usual slow rise and I found out basically within two weeks that that was what it was and miscarriaged as well so it took just over two weeks from diagnosing slow hcg rise to miscarriage, but for alot of women they dont find out until around 12 or so wks as as I have posted the placents can form so the body still thinks its pregnant with a viable pregnancy for a while

The bad news is that if you really do have blighted ovum, hormones and drugs won't help you. There's no baby in there to save. The good news is that usually it's just random, and you should be able to try again for a healthy baby soon.

I agree with Clysta, be sure to ask your doctor about blood testing. You should also be getting a follow-up ultrasound if there is any question about whether or not you are going through a miscarriage. I had blood drawn last week to check for a possible blighted ovum as well but haven't gotten the results back yet. With Christmas and all they are taking FOREVER. I also have an appointment scheduled for a second ultrasound next week to see if baby is indeed growing.

What my OB-GYN said is that if your blood work comes back with an unusually high HcG hormone level, that can mean it's an older pregnancy that isn't growing right, like what you'd expect with blighted ovum. If your hormone levels are more average for a 5-6 week pregnancy, that's a good sign. They may also want to take blood samples a few days apart to see if your hormone levels are rising at normal rates, rising very slowly, or falling.

I say go to the hospital because they will give you  the results much faster than a doctors office will

Definitely talk to them and see what's going on. The main problem is, nothing will save a non-viable pregnancy. Most first trimester miscarriages are due chromosomal issues with the child itself, and it not being to survive outside the womb. Make sure to ask about having blood testing done to see what your hormone levels are.

Was it a reputable site that said this, or made by a user. People will post anything and everything, regardless of whether it's correct or not. For example, the APA (american pregnancy association) has a page on blighted ovum's, how they're diagnosed and such. This is what they put in the first post: A blighted ovum (also known as “anembryonic pregnancy”) happens when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, but the embryo does not develop. Cells develop to form the pregnancy sac, but not the embryo itself. A blighted ovum occurs within the first trimester, often before a woman knows she is pregnant. A high level of chromosome abnormalities usually causes a woman’s body to naturally miscarry.

This is how a blighted ovum is diagnosed. By lack of fetal pole growth. Otherwise it would be labeled as a miscarriage/missed miscarriage.

I read that blighted ovum means there is a baby it just didnt grow the way it should. So im going talk to the doctor and go see if thats something I need

Progesterone does not save a non-viable pregnancy. In a blighted ovum, the fetus does not form at all, therefor there would not be anything to save. A blighted ovum can be misdiagnosed, and then progesterone can help the pregnancy progress if needed. It is not however a magical drug, and should not be thought of as such. It's wonderful for women who have trouble staying pregnant because of low progesterone, but beyond that doesn't do much else.

My boyfriends sister took progresterone hormones to help her baby grow to full term I am going to ask my doctor about that . I read online that there has been many cases of a blighted ovum and the baby was saved because of the progresterone hormone supplement.

you can hold on to hope but it is best that you prepare yourself for the not so positive outcome as it doesnt look to hopeful, the only thing would be if your dates were way off but you have had your positive preg test so the blighted ovum is the most likely senario

You can also read more online from websites like the American Pregnancy one. I didn't know any of this stuff prior to pregnancy, I learned by reading websites, books, and by talking to women on this forum. I'm truly sorry if that's what it is, I went through some bleeding early on in the pregnancy and understand the fear and worry that go along with possible miscarriage. I'll say a little prayer just in case, and hope that we're wrong and things go well for you.

yes it really sounds to me like this is what it is I had one in november and miscarried naturally, the fact that you started bleeding after your pap would most probably be just coincidence, this is unfortunate but it is a very common occurance, and does not mean that any subsequent pregnancies will end the same
