no fetal pole or yolk sac

3 days ago at 5 weeks 3 days along i went to the er because i was having carmping and wasnt sure what it was from. My blood work came back with hcg at 15000. Double what its supposed to be at this stage of pregnancy but u/s didnt show yolk sac or fetal pole. Which made the dr think im miscarrying. Yesterday i got more blood work done and my progesterone levels were at 19 (normal pregnancy is around 20) and hcg was up at 25000. Drs think since the hcg is so high but cant see a yolk sac or fetal pole its an abnormal pregnancy dispite normal progesterone levels and hcg. I have also been informed that twins (very common in my family) wouldnt show up that early and would make hcg double. They want to schedule a d&c but i just have this feeling everything is fine. So idk what to think or do. Has anyone had the same thing happen or have any advice?

If you as early on as you say then it is not uncommon to not see a fetal pole or heartbeat but typically you would see a sac in the uterus. When I was going through this type of situation in April it was difficult to know exactly what was happening because it is tough early on when there is not an exact day you should see something. I kept following up with the Dr. and getting an U/S every week. Eventually when I was around 9 weeks and there was no growth or HB it was clear that the pregnancy was not normal and I was comfortable at that time to get a D&C. Prior to all the checking and waiting to see if something would happen or grow I was not comfortable and told them I would wait. You have to go with your gut and be comfortable. Good Luck.
