painful menstrual cramps at 35 weeks

I'm 35 weeks pregnant with my first and currently experiencing terrible menstrual like cramps in my lower abdomen. It started the other day at work so I thought it was just me running around too much and once I sat down and relaxed they subsided. Just now while getting something to eat I got some of the worst ones yet and again once I sit down I feel better. My stomach gets very tight and I have to stop whatever I'm doing.  I can't tell if they are contractions or just the baby sitting weird. I know her head is down.. I've had a perfect pregnancy so far and it just worries me if she comes 5 weeks early! what could these pains be? Should I call my mid wife? Also I have no spotting or low back pain.
