pregnancy

what is a normal size blood clot to pass during pregnancy? I am six weeks and i have went to the doctor on 11-3-11 bc i was having heavy bleeding. I saw the baby's heart beat and my cervix was close and everything else was good. Now I am experiencing blood clots the size of a nickle and i feel very lethargic. What should I do?

well the person i spoke to was not my doctor. she was the on call doctor. (My doctor is very good actually). when she told me that i felt the same way you did. I am going to monitor myself and stay in bed for most of the day and if it continues tomorrow or gets worst tonight i will go. I have not experience cramping at all today so that might be a good sign and the blood does not even fill up a pantie liner. I think i would be more concerned it the blood was excessive. Its almost 6 O'CLOCK and i have not past a blood clot yet.

That's not old blood--no offense, but I would find a new doctor. Yours sounds...bad. Old blood is brown. Bright red bleeding and clotting sounds like a miscarriage. Go to the ER and get looked at.

Thank all of you for the advice I went head and called my doctors office to see what they want me to do. They informed me it was old blood that was just trying to come out. She said she does not think I should have to go in the er.

It really isn't normal to pass blood clots while pregnant. I bled during my first trimester and I passed clots, and they never could tell me for sure what the reason was. I was told that there could have been a twin or that it could have been  subchorionic hematoma but it was never definitive. Have they checked your progesterone levels any? I had be put on supplements as mine started dropping when the bleeding got heavily. You definitely need to go back to your doctor or to the ER.

I would go back to your doctor or the ER and have another ultrasound done. While not uncommon, it is not normal to pass blood clots while pregnant.
