prenatal vitamins

I'm 11 weeks preqnant and I haven't been taking my prenatal vitamins. Not because I don't want to,but because I can't even see them. Just seeing the bottle makes me throw up,now imagine when I take them. I get a bad stomach ache and I start throwing up really bad. What to do??? Help!!!

I agree Kendradawn88.  Taking my vitamins at night didn't work for me either.  I just threw that out there because some women have said it worked for them.  Didn't work for me either :(  Just swallowing anything would cause me to throw up.  I had to be hospitalized because I couldn't even hold down water.

I did take the gummy vitamins until I got sick but not after that.

They actually have some gummy Prenatal vitamins now that I take because I am breastfeeding.  Those may help but vitamins may just be out of the question for now.

Good luck because I know this is horrible!!

I guess it's pretty common, but my doctor said it didn't have to be the 'prental vitamins' she said as long as I was getting the vitamins me and the baby needed that was what mattered. I would even try and take my prenatal at night and would wake up within an hour puking! The Flinstone Gummy's really work for me, and that's what my doctor recommended. I don't get sick at all.

Don't worry.  This happens to me as well.  I have had 7 babies now and cannot take prenatals during my first trimester.  By the time I get to where I can, I forget.  I just do my best to eat healthy once I am actually able to eat again.  All of my babies have been very healthy.

When you get that sick during a pregnancy, taking them can actually cause more harm than good if it causes vomiting because anything you are eating/nutrients are coming right back up.  It may not just be the smell.  If you are already sick, taking vitamins can cause the vomiting even without the smell.  I had tried instant breakfast drinks  and tried getting my vitamins that way, but the vitamins themselves made me sick.

I have heard some women say that taking their vitamins before bed helps them to be able to take their vitamins and tolerate them.  That might be worth a try.

I don't want to make it sound like I am advocating not taking your vitamins because I'm not.  I'm just saying that even if you aren't able to take them, you will most likely still have a healthy baby.  Thankfully, I always have.

I can't stand the sight of my prenatals too!! The smell of them is so disgusting to me so I have my DF crush one up a day and put it in yogurt or cereal so I don't have to see or smell them!

Ok, I can't take the prenatal vitamins either. I am 12 weeks, 5 days. They make me sick if I take them. I already have morning sickness so I stopped. I asked my Dr. what to do and she said just go buy some Flinstones, regular chewables or gummy ones. They work great for me and do not make me sick. She also said if they didn't work and made me sick too, to just buy folic acid tablets. Thats the most important thing the baby needs. I sure hope this helps:)
