progestrone while pregnant

I miscarried at 11 weeks and they tested me and now think it was b/c i have low progestrone.  They said if I become pregnant again they will give me progestrone to use during pregnancy to keep it from happening.  I was wondering if anyone else has had problems with progestrone and if taking it while pregnant helped them to have a normal pregnancy or if they still had problems or miscarried.  Thanks!

my friend had low progesterone resulting in a very short luteal phase.  she was given progesterone and 100mg b6 to lengthen her luteal phase to allow longer implantation time.  she had 2 m/c in the past.  after this change, 2 cycles later she was preg.  she is 5 months along with a baby boy!  good luck to you!

Thanks, Rachie - I understand your nervousness.  I too am apprehensive - I don't want to go through the trauma again but I do want another baby.  My husband and I agreed to keep trying and just keep our eyes on God in this - it's totally in His hands.  I pray you too will be blessed with another little angel and that all will go well for you

If your periods are 3 months then I would think you could have low progesterone.  I think taking it will help regulate you.  I think you start taking it after ovulation.

As for taking it while pregnant:
I m/c in Nov 06, I suspected that is was because low progesterone, but nver had it tested because of a bad Dr.  My baby had a heartbeat and was just a little behind on development, but I was bleeding and clotting really bad.  Then I m/c soon after.  So this pregnancy I got my levels tested at 5wks.  It was 17 then 2 days later went to 15.  They generally like to see levels above 20 for pregnancy.  I took supplements until 13wks, then got retested. My progesterone was at 21, because the placenta took over, but it is still kinda low in my opinion.  Anywho, I am now 33 wks pregnant, the lining of my uterus has been really thick throughout.  I believe it saved my pregnancy and I have heard from many other women that it saved theirs too.  It is totally worth it to take it, I was soo scared at first that it would harm the baby, but everything seems fine with his growth so far.  I took a vaginal gel, prochieve, because I heard the gel is better than oral pills, but that is also weird to take because some of the side effect such as discharge...which will be a salmon color (TMI, but good to know because I was worried I was spotting).

well my cycles were normal a few years ago...then I had my son and he is 3 now.  After i had him they were pretty normal.  But about a year ago I started getting them about every 3 months or so.  Then while getting them every 3 months or so I got pregnant.  Then miscarried at 11 weeks.  It has been 11 weeks since my d&c.  They did a hormone test about 2 weeks ago exactly.  I started bleeding for the first time thursday,  I spoke with the Dr. yesterday when she told me that the test showed i had low progestrone and that my body was trying to ovulate and then stopping and she said she was going to put me on some med to make me start my period but then I told her i had started and she said to wait until next month and she wants it to come in 28 days 30 at the most and if it doesnt she is going to put me on some progestrone.  So I am thinking that it was probably low for the past year or so since my periods were only every 3 months or so?  What do you think?

Oh, maybe I misunderstood! Did you have the progesterone testing done once your cycles were back to normal? I thought you were referring to the levels at the time of the miscarriage.

I am so sorry about your loss. I did take progesterone after having low levels early in my pregnancy, but still had a miscarriage. The thing is, it's hard to say whether you miscarry because you have low progesterone levels OR if the reason you have low levels is because the pregnancy is not normal to begin with. In other words, if it was a healthy pregnancy, the progesterone levels might have been normal. BUT, my dr says progesterone supplements does not hurt, so when I get pregnant again, I'll probably start it right away...just in case.

Hi Rachie,
I was told exactly the same thing last week by my dr (I miscarried at 9 weeks).  My friend told me it's to increase the lining of the uterus so the baby has more nutrition esp in the early stages (she used to work for a gyne).   I'll keep an eye out on your post as I would also like to know if anyone has had this treatment through their pregnancy.  Good luck and God bless you :)
