question for experienced moms*

(I'm not prego but everyone gives good answers here sry!)
I saw a post about pacifiers and it made me wanna ask this-
So my daughter uses a pacifier (her B.B. lol) shes now 6months and sadly addicted lol. However she rarely ***** on it like normal she mostly chews on it . She does this thing were she gets it suctioned to her thumb lol no matter how many times i take it off she puts it back. And shell just be playing while her B.B is on her thumb and put it  in her mouth wenever she wants it for a cpl minutes. The only time she ***** it is at nap/bed time. I tried taking it away since shes 6months now and this was my "planned" time to take it away but then she got her 6month shots and the flu shot and was a little sick after and i felt bad gave in and now she has b.b. again. Lol. My question is for you guys who have children who already passed
the pacifier stage and how you guys got
through it. My daughter LOVES her b.b. but i
really think its time to break them up lol. What are some good tricks and methods to use?!

They make teethers that look like pacifiers. They have harder plastic and nubs on the nipples. You might google it and see if that helps. That way she can chew but doesn't get any satisfaction s.u.c.k. Ing on it

I think ill COMBINE advice lol. I'm going to cut all the nipple parts off like Stacie_rose said and take baby2ontheway advice and put the nasty Polish on her thumb. So when she puts the nippleless b.b. on her thumb not only will there b no nipple it will b nasty too! Lol. Seems like this will work for my daughter! Lol . Good idea? ?

@Stacie_rose I literally laughed out loud to your post! That's a good idea tho. For my daughter that COULD work bc she'll go to chew it and nothing will be there but it might make her suck her thumb bc she likes her b.b on her thumb and if she puts the b.b. on her thumb with the top cut off all's that will b there is her THUMB lol

Yes its meant for babies, I tried it to make sure it wasn't chemical tasting and it tastes like ground pepper kind of lol, and its cheap, less then$3 at my local walgreens, but because my daughter has hadher thumb for nearly 2 1/2 years it didn't work she just sucked and sucked until the taste came off, adults also use it to stop biting their nails. Its worth a try.

That's a good idea phatz88....baby2ontheway how did you get your daughter to sleep at bedtime without it? My daughter will wake up throughout the night with her mouth wide open and look for her b.b. and pop it in and go right back to sleep..she's gunna be looking for a long time when I take it away lol

@baby2ontheway i am going to take your advice. I have never thought about putting something horrible tasting on her fingers, it sounds so simple now lol. I am willing to try pretty much anything, my daughter is a nightmare with sucking her fingers!

After the trouble I had getting one off my first daughter (finally did at 18 months), we never gave our second and third daughters them! Too much hassle and tbh they don't need them. Sounds harsh but we ended up cutting the teats off all of them and she soon realised they were useless and wasnt bothered after a day! The sooner you get it off her the better it'l be easier at her age,. Does she have a comfort blanket or anything else she can use instead? My daughter is nearly 6 and still takes the blanket she come home from hospital in to bed every night!

I guess ill wait a month or 2 and she if I can take it away then without her using her thumb as an alternative ...is that nail Polish stuff safe for babies? Have u used it? My plan was to throw them all away but idont wanna throw every one away and have her get attached to her thumb

My niece had her binky until she was 2. Every time I saw her with it I would take her hand and say lets give binky a new home. So we would go to the backyard and bury them. She would get kinda cranky when naps came but slowly she got over it. But at time she would be playing with her baby dolls and suck on the little hard play binkies or bottles it was funny. But since your daughter is younger try taking it from her during the day and only give it to her at night or see if she forgets when it comes to night time.

I would, if she ***** a nuk a little longer and you try again in like 2 months maybe she won't try for her thumb, if she gets hooked on her thumb you can't just take it away like you can a nuk, and you could try using nail polish that tastes bad (from local pharmacy) so that she learns to dislike her thumbs and fingers before they become habit forming because once she is addicted to sucking her thumbs she will bear through the bad taste to continue sucking, but if she learns now that she doesn't like them and then you take her nuk she will have no choice but to stop sucking all together:-)

I would wait a little longer, i hate that my daughter s.u.c.k.s her fingers, once she does that its extremely hard to control. You do what's best for you

I took away my sons binky when he started to chew it. About 8 months old. He didn't seem to look for it and never used his thumb.

My daughter does the humming thing at night too!  If she can't find her b.b. she will put her hand, fingers, thumb in her mouth. Do you suggest waiting a little to take b.b. away? Lol. I just don't want her to be one years old tryna talk still with a b.b. in her mouth!

My daughter will be 3 in march, I took her nuk away at 6 months and it was very hard cause she hummed while she sucked it to lul herself to sleep, after I took it she started sucking her hand/fingers/arm until she finally found her thumb, I figured she would just use it a few days to get over the loss of her nuk, and after she would fall asleep I would take her thumb out so she didn't suck it all night, now she is almost 3 and no matter what I do I can't get her off her thumb, I know this doesn't tell you much about how to get your Baby's nuk away, but I just wanted to share that if you notice ANY SIGNS she might just switch to her thumb be careful, I wish I had given back her nuk for a bit and made sure she was never a thumb sucker because a thumb is impossible to take away and when you walk out of the room she finds it. Good luck
