To make you feel better. I was 13 weeks, and my doctor couldn't find the heartbeat either. But if there's no heartbeat they almost ALWAYS to an ultrasound just to be on the safe side. I'm very surprised your doctor didn't provide you that. I would call your doctor and tell them you are having a really hard time coping with what happend yesterday, and need to be seen again to have an ultrasound. If that doesn't work, most towns, and cities, have places you can pay to have an ultrasound done. I did that at 6 weeks when my numbers were dropping. Helped me relax. I'm sure you are just fine. You're docotr was right in saying that there's no real emergency when you dont have any symptoms of miscarriage. You're not always going to feel the presure of a growing uterus that early on. Keep us posted  :o)

I should probably say around 11 weeks, most women start to feel better.  It is not unusual that you have "lost" symptoms.  This is when they begin to go away on their own and it is a normal, safe, good thing to happen.

I went in and had a cerclage at 13 weeks 2 days, my nurse couldnt find the heartbeat and she tried a couple different times but i had the u/s before and after the procedure and my baby was moving all over and perfectly healthy and fine...i would def call though and say hey, i want an u/s. its your baby and its their job to make sure you feel ok while your pregnant because it is a very stressful time!!

Good Luck

I am just shocked that no u/s was done.  I got freaked out yesterday at 9w 2d, called the doc at noon or so and was offered an apt at 2, took one at 6:15, got my u/s and feel better.  I dont understand the wait!  on a good note, it is very hard to find a heartbeat that early with out u/s.  I would not let it worry you too much!!!  On this site alone, I bet it is probably 50/50 of people who were able to hear that early and ones that cant.  i was one that could not.  i think my first time was 12w 5d and it took over 20 mins for her to find it.

yeah they couldnt hear a heartbeat until i was like 14 weeks i think. I rememeber at 12 they couldnt find it. The baby is still so small! Im sure everything is fine. Plus your body changes all the time throughout pregnancy some weeks you feel awful or extremly hungry and other weeks your full of energy or not hungry at all.

You are welcome! I think you should get an u/s but again, you would feel pregnant one day and totally not pregnant another day, and that is NORMAL! Don't panic and just wait for a while (of course if they won't give you u/s earlier) and then be reassured that your baby is there!  I don't want to encourage you too much though because things happen but in your case, its too early to panic :)

Your doc should have definitely done an u/s or at least scheduled one right away! I know if my midwife wasn't able to hear my baby's heartbeat, she would definitely send me for one. Sometimes you can't hear it that early on, it just depends on a lot of things. I would call them and see if they can schedule one for you or change docs if you are not comfortable with them.

I'm not familiar with New Jersey, as I'm in Alabama, but I would definitely call the doctor back and demand an u/s.  With my first pregnancy, I had a m/c, but didn't bleed or anything and had to have a D&C because my body would expell the baby on its own.  So, you never know what is going on and I just can't get over them not doing an u/s when a heartbeat couldn't be found on doppler.

I think it's cruel for the dr. to tell you they can't hear a heartbeat at 11 weeks, but not offer an ultrasound.  IMHO, I say change docs!  Most dr's offices have the high quality, professional grade dopplers (you can also rent them at baby beat . com) that you can hear heartbeats by like 10 weeks, or so I thought?

I know at my doctors, the nurse couldn't find the heartbeat, and they did an ultrasound right then to check on my little man. Turns out everything was okay, he was just hiding.
I didn't hear the heartbeat until my 12-13 wks. So don't stress
Easier said than done i know

I always thought that if the heartbeat wasn't heard with a doppler then the doctor had to give you a u/s..... Maybe its just my state or my doctors.

I agree, some women don't hear the heartbeat until 12-14W on a doppler, don't stress too much!

You should call your dr and tell them that until you see the baby on the ultrasound you are going to be pulling your hair out. Most ob's are understanding and don't want you at home driving yourself crazy with worry. See if they can get you in for a quick scan.

I'm sorry your so stressed out. The end of the first trimester can be a little scarry because you lose the pregnancy symptoms and don't feel movements yet, but it's also normal. Good luck.

I am surprised they didn't do an u/s as well.  That is always your back up for assurance.

Well, all I can say is that it is almost impossible to hear a heartbeat through the doppler at 11 weeks! usually they start at week 13 or so, so don't panic just yet..as far as u/s, I am surpirsed she didn't do it...some weird doc, honestly! It is an emergency for you and it is important to know what's going on! But I guess you should wait in this case for 2 more weeks and then the doppler should pick up the heartbeat if its there...Also, symptoms come and go and it doesn't mean that something happened! Mine weren't consistant as well, so that's not something to worry about.
