short cervix

So I went to my anatomy scan on Friday and everything was fine with the baby then the tech comes in and said they contacted my doctor because I have a short cervix..... the doc said just no sex and I should be fine and we will discuss it more when I go in on the 8th. Has anyone else had this issue? Is it something to freak out about? I'm just worried.....

I was told at 27 weeks about a short cervix of only 1cm. Was put on progesterone once a day and had two steroid injections over a 24 hour period. I wasn't put on complete bedrest, just told rest at least 4-5 hours per day. I had ultrasounds each week from then until now and my cervix is now at .7cm and has been like that for the last 3 ultrasounds. My doc is happy with the fact it want gotten shorter over past few weeks, I am now 33+3 and will be on progesterone until 35 weeks. They have said to me though, that some people just have a shorter cervix than others. I have tried not to stress about it and just enjoy being pregnant. Good luck

I have the same problem. my first pregnancy i found out at 28 weeks and was givrn steroid shotd and put on complete bedrest byt i carried him until 3U wreks. This pregnancy im having the same problem again on complete bedrest and im 33 weeks. I contract through my whole pregnancy andthats what causes my cervix to shrink. Id take it easy until your appt and make surre u ask your doc how short it is. It could only be a bit short and maybe thats why they arent too concerned but i would ask. Try can tell u wht length its supposed to be at and what yours actually is. Mine was supposed to be between 3 and 3.5 and its 1.1 but so far no more shortening. Do what ut doc says and take it easy. Good luck mama i know its scary but try not to worry.

I'm definitely going to call and see if I can go in before the 8th just to make sure cause it was my doctors partner so my doctor may have something different to say

@mommaboo no there usually is no signs.. the only thing can be back pain (but that can happen from a normal healthy pregnancy) that's why its so scary.. BC usually you find out when its too late or at a Dr appointment if they even check you're cervix and it can be too late then too or it can already be extremely short..

And make sure you tell you're Dr you want to be checked every two weeks and ask about progesterone and also a cerclage if its too short.. I have a cerclage now and I'm 22+5 pregnant with a baby girl :) and no problem! If you ever have another question you can message me.  Good luck and make an apt earlier.. even if its not that short they mentioned it for a reason.. and I would make sure.

@mrsdelacruz I take two at night and it helps tons. Just make sure u don't push no matter what! And take it easy!! Constipation is the worst thing when you have a short cervix. Also try not to have any sex. Even if the Dr gives you the ok don't do it.. I'm only telling you from experience. I'd hate for you to go through what I did..

@janney that's awesome but also be careful now that the baby is sstarting to gain Weight it puts more pressure on you're cervix and if its short it can shorten again and by a lot.. just take it easy and get it checked often.  Just words of advice from a mom who lost two babies due to a short cervix.. I don't want any other mommies to go through that. Its awful

I had the exact problem also found out at 19 weeks they think its just cuz some people are born with short cervix. But I started progesterone the week I found out I'm always on it nd I go to check ups every 2 week's to measure my cervix nd I stay off my feet nd stay in bed mostly always plus I eat healthy. I'm 27 weeks now nd thanks to that my cervix hasn't gotten smaller nd the baby is healthy. My doc says as long as I don't have like cramps or bleeding or contractions nd keep up the good work she doesn't see why I wouldn't make it to full term. Just take care of yourself nd the baby (:

I honestly wouldn't scare you unless I felt it was something serious.. my Dr also wasn't concerned until I lost my son a week later.

Both my babies were fine they both had strong heart beats until one day I went to the bathroom and pushed and my membranes were out completely.. I had to deliver immediately and lost my babies because I was 19+5.  Start taking stool softeners.. colace two a day until you see you're Dr. If its very short its really bad and any kind of strain when you go bathroom can cause something like that to happened.

No usually by an transvaginal ultrasound.

How short is you're cervix??? Don't have sex try to stay in bed for the most part with you're legs up.. and no bending down or lifting anything.. trust me you don't want to mess with that.. it can go from 2 mom to 0 in days if you have incompetent cervix.. and that's what it sounds like to me if you're cervix is short and you're in you're second trimester. If you have any more questions please ask.. x
