smoking during pregnancy?

hi i have a question..any experiences would be appreciated. :)
i smoked up until i was a little over 5 weeks pregnant. about 5 weeks, 4 days i think. it took a little while to get the will to quit because i hadn't planned on the pregnancy. since i did quit i haven't smoked a single time since then...do you think im at risk for preterm labor or another complication? ive read that if you quit in the first trimester its virtually like you never smoked at all is this true?

You should be fine, I did the exact same thing but I found out I was pregnant at 5 weeks and it was recommended to me to ween off of them instead of cold turkey, so I was 2 months when I had completely stopped. My son was fine when he came out. He's a happy healthy 18 month old now. Actually a friend of mine did NOT smoke with one pregnancy and her son was deformed when he was born, and she DID smoke with her daughter, and her daughter is fine...so I mean I know it's bad and I wouldn't smoke when I'm pregnant, but I don't think you need to worry too much.

I am not sure about the preterm labor thing since you quit. GOod job!!!!! I do know that there can be complications with the development but there are many babies that turn out fine even with smoking the whole time so I would not worry. Remember that anyone else smoking can cause preterm labor also and a very high risk of sids! I know a woman who only smoked three a day and lost her first three kids to sids and they said that it was not only from her smoking but she hadn;t cleaned to house from top to bottom and her husband still smoked even if it was outside. There is a risk of third hand smoke they have found out which is in the home and on clothing even if in not direct sontact with teh smoke. More chance of ear infections, low immunity, colds atc. So keep up the goo d work and you should be proud of yourself. And if anyone says they can't stop for the baby then you can say Yes you can I did! Waht a graet job!

I was a smoker and I did up until I found out that I was pregnant (8wks and 10 wks). Both of my kids are healthy. So don't stress about it too much. My DR told me while I was trying to quit it was ok to have 1 a day. I found it was easier just to quit cold turkey. Congrats on your pregnancy and on quitting smoking!

I commend you for quiting as I know how hard it can be. I really doubt there is anything for you to worry about since you did quit so early, but I would just mention it to your OB so it will be in your file. Good luck and congrats!

your not really at risk because you quit so early, the preterm labor thing is for women that smoke late into pregnancy. You should be fine. Congrats on quitting and even bigger congrats on the pregnancy!
