sorry completely OT... but what did i just do to my neck????

guys, i was just taking a shower and while i was shampooing my hair i think i put pressure on something at the bottom of my skull too hard...  i guess the position of my head and my neck at the time made it strain somehow and i'm in tears it hurts so bad.  this is going to be a very busy day today and definately not the time for me to not be able to move!  i am at my parents house right now and i have to go to our house (40 miles away) and get dh's paycheck from the mailbox then go pick him up from the airport then take our car to the shop and then go shopping for dd's b-day presents and groceries...  all before bringing my mom's car back to her tonight.  this completely sucks and i'm emotional and just venting i guess....  but does anyone know how to fix my neck???  i feel like i'm paralyzed (w/ pain) on the left side!

How about trying an ice pack...20 minutes on and 20 minutes off...that might help..i have a friend who always pulls her back and that seems to help..also if that doesnt  help everytime I have a back ache I use the moist heating pad that you can find at any pharmacy or store ...or another option is thermocare has a pad that you put in the microwave to warm it ....try both..and hopefully some relief will be felt..Gia :)

I would go to the ER it sounds like you may have slipped a cervical disc, did you hear anything pop in your neck? I would have it checked as soon as possible.

thank you for responding guys!  i had to leave before i got to read any of them though...  i've been running around all day and now its just worse!  i tried to lay down for about 30 mintues earlier but that hurt too!  and on top of that my whole day got ruined...  dh's check did not come in the mail today (hopefully tomorrow) and his flight to come home got cancelled until tomorrow so he is driving home (6 hours) in a rental car instead!  so i'm back at my parents' house waiting for him to get here (late tonight).  i have taken tylenol twice today and i'm right there w/ you about it not working for me either!  i never take tylenol when i'm not pregnant...  but i know its the only safe thing to take!  i tried to use icy hot a couple times today and that's not worth a sh!t either!!!  (i read in an old post from the maternal and child forum that docs say its ok to use during pregnancy after the 1st trimester)  i hope i feel better before dh gets here...  now that our plans got messed up today we have double to do tomorrow on top of getting ready for dd's b-day party for sunday!  ugh!!!!!!!

Sorry you're in pain! Tylenol is the only pain reliever considered safe during pregnancy, so unfortunately that is all you can take. Just be careful with your neck. You can try cool rags on your neck or a warming pad (alternate them).

You probably pulled a muscle, that is really painful!! Do take Tylenol, the only real "safe" medicine to take while pregnant... I suffer from migraines and have always used Advil pre-pregnancy, now I have to settle for Tylenol. I take two Tylenol Rapid Release Gels and it helps take the edge off. If the pain continues through tomorrow or worsens between now and then, take a trip to the Urgent Care or ER and get checked out, in case it's something serious. Also do try the hot and cold; for me heat works best but others swear by cold. Only keep the hot or cold on for 30 minutes max, then wait 30 minutes, then do it again. Best wishes to you!

Being pregnant definitely limits your options when it comes to pain relief.  I think tylenol is about the only thing the doctors recommend.  And I agree with the previous poster, you could try hot or cold packs.  I wonder if you pulled a ligament or something?  You may need to get it checked out.

you mite have to go to the ER just to make sure you didnt fracture something. I would use heat on tht neck for right now, and meanwhile try and see if you can work it out. Maybe its just a crick or something. is it just your neck? do u have any numbness or stiffness any where else? it may have just been u bruised it a lil and u mite have to rest your head/neck for a lil while

i called the doc's office to  see what i can take b/c i'm at my parents' house right now and i ran out of tylenol...  i told her they have advil and she said i definately can not take that but she couldn't tell me why, just that i couldn't.  what does advil do to you while pregnant that makes you not be able to take it even once???  i ended up finding some tylenol arthritis in their medicine cabinet and she told me i could take that for now.  but does anyone know of anything else i can do to try and get some relief???  i have so much to do today and it sucks having my movement restricted when i'm going to be having to drive all over town and getting the kids in and out of the car like 12 times today!  i also found some icy hot in their cabinet and put some of that on...  but it didn't really do anything!
