It checks for a bacteria that grows in the vagina it's not harmful to the mommy but it is to the baby so this test measures to see if you are a carrier of strep b if you are a carrier, they treat you with antibiotics while you are in labor through iv so you don't pass it to the baby. It's nothing to worry about though.
Also the procedure is 3-4 circle swab in the vagina and then you act like ur wiping your butt when ur swabbing your butt.(never heard of sticking it in your butt) lol that's how I always explained it to patients hope that helps. Easy and painless!

It doesn't hurt, and they stick it in your butt for like a millisecond but barely, it's nothing compared to a cervix check which also isn't necessarily painful, just uncomfortable

They swab the inside of your vagina and the outside of you butt hole. I see a midwife so I was able to do it myself.
