God knows what is going on and what you can handle (like you said) I'm sorry this is happening , but there is alwys hope. when my mother was pregnant they did ultrasounds and screenings and old my mother that my brother (now 13) had down syndrom a 94% chance, my mom was going to keep the baby either way my nrother was a happy healthy little boy with no down syndrom, if she had listen to what the doctor was telling her, she might not have had a beautiful healthy little baby boy! later on (2 pregnancies later) she had my baby sister who is severly disabled, there were no scrreens for what she has and it did not becone apparent until she was about 1 year old. My mother is now divorced with 3 children at home still including my baby sister and she thanks God everyday that she has her even with the special needs that she has! I will pray for you and your little one and hope that either it was false or at the very least a very minor case that you can handle!

I am so sorry that you are going through this! I will keep you in my prayers that it is a false negative and if it is indeed spina bifida that it is a very minor case! Please keep us posted! God Bless

Zoe had to get a sonogram of her spine after she was born because she had a hematoma on her lower back and doc just wanted to rule it out. Turns out she's perfectly fine. During that time I learned a little about spina bifida. There are varying degrees of severity and most people have the least serious form. With a good sono of the spine I wouldn't worry at this point!

Will the amnio say he has it for certain or only a percentage he COULD have it?

There are different types of spina bifida, sweetheart. Wait until you talk to the doctor about it in more detail!

I wish you all the very best and I'll pray that everything ends up being fine in the end.  There are a lot of false positives on the maternal screening tests (one of the reasons that DH and I chose to not pusure any of the testing, both with this pregnancy and our last one).

Please keep us updated - we're all here for you ((hugs))

I know they can do surgery that can help correct this both in utero and after birth. You might want to ask your doctor about this.

I have a friend who's daughter had a little girl born with spinal bifida. They chose not to do the in utero surgery but she's had surgeries after birth. She is 2 now and was just fitted with a wheelchair where she can sit and even stand with support so that she can see better. They said she's a very happy, loving child and a joy to be around.

Praying for you!

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  Let me say that there ARE places out there that can help you take care of a special needs child.  Everything will be ok.  Take a deep breath and let it out slowly and tell yourself "I can do this".   PM Martikadragoon, she has a special needs child, she is a strong woman and can give you good advice.

it's okay sweetie, even if it is a true positive, my aunt has spina bifida (a minor case) and she's a fully functioning adult. she injures her back easily and has to be careful when lifting, but truthfully it hasn't affected her life that seriously. I'm praying it is a false positive, but even if it's not don't feel hopeless it's definitely not the end of the world and it's definitely not the worst prognosis!

hang in there honey
