threatned abortion

Question

has anyone been told that they might have a threatened abortion and went on and had a healthy baby?
im 5 weeks pregnant and i started spotting 2 days ago, off and on and i went to the er and they told me i might miscarry. i have to stay off my feet for a couple of days

update!! well i went to the er today for bleeding again. my hcg levels doubled.but my progesterone is only 10.5, it needs to be at least a 20, and the hospital thinks i might have an ectopic again, but they couldnt prove it and they wanted to give me a shot to end the pregnancy, and i declined. because they didnt have proof it was in my tubes. they think its ectopic because they didnt see anything in my uterus. but my sister went through this and they tried to abort the pregnancy, and she said no, and when she hit 7 weeks, they saw the baby in the uterus with ultrasound and her pregesterone was low and they put her on a pill. she now has a 6month old healthy baby boy. has this ever happened to anyone and they ended up having a healthy pregnancy?

well i went to the dr and my levels didnt doulbe, they went up but only by 300, so now i am getting worried. i just had to go and get my progesterone levels taken, and i will find out monday. the dr said that it would need to be at least a 20, and if its under that i will end up loosing my baby.

when you are threatned to miscarry is your cervix supposed to be open or closed? b/c when my ob checked mine she said,"ok good". assuming that meant everything was ok and nothing was wrong w/it...was i wrong to assume that? and should i be more worried that the dr keeps telling me i have to wait another day for my hcg levels??

Any time anything out of completely normal happens during a pregnancy it is considered a threated abortion.  I have had two now and both are fine.  I have a healthy 19 month old boy and have had brown and bright red blood during this pregnancy and am 9.5 weeks pregnant and have had 3 ultrasounds and all three are great.  Also my numbers did not double.  With my son they went up 20% and with this one they went from 1800 to 4000 in 4 days around the 5.5 week mark.  It sounds like you are perfectly normal.  One more week and you should be ablet o get u/s answers.  Good Luck to you!

jnitro- your levels are not too low. They sound beautiful! The point, of course, is that they double every 72 hours. Let us know how that goes!

Brown blood is old blood. An ultrasound is too soon at this point. You should get another ultrasound in 2 weeks because you should be able to see something, even a heartbeat, by then!

1600 is not low for 5 wks. At my 5wk u/s with my first pregnancy not a lot was seen either. What ended up being the case is I ovulated later than normal. So don't lose hope yet. See what your blood levels are on thursday. Keep us updated. Good luck

when i went to the er i was spotting brown, but only when i wiped. then they didnt see anything in the ultrasound, and they said my levels were 1600 and that was low for 5 weeks. so i had to go and get blood taken today, and i go to the dr thursday to find out if my levels are going up or down. i will let you know what the results are tomorrow.

Im kind of going through the same thing they called it a "threatned miscarriage" when i went to the e.r the 1st time they didnt see anything on the ultra sound and i was 5weeks and was bleeding{a little to much in my opinion}
today 4-1 i made 6weeks and im still being told the same thing....im trying not to stress over it but i wish you nothing but the best of luck....keep us or me updated on your condition if you dont mind.

My current pregnancy (31w2d) was also labeled a "threatened miscarriage" early on due to heavy bleeding. It is possible to go on and have a healthy baby, just make sure you follow your dr's orders and take really good care of yourself. Good luck. :)

Both my pregnancies were threatened miscarriages.
My first just because my u/s didn't show anything when it "should".
My second was much more serious. I had bleeding, a misshaped sac, and a baby that didnt grow for 8 days. 
I have a 18 month old daughter from my first pregnancy and I'm now 26wks 4 days pregnant with another girl, my second pregnancy.
Doctors Are NOT always right.

Is there a reason the ER said that you had a threatened miscarriage? Did they perform an ultrasound or blood tests?

My advice is to get a quantative HCG test and a progesterone check (they'll take your blood for it). Two days after that, do it again. Your doctor will be able to see if your HCG levels are rising appropriately and/or if your progesterone is low and you need supplements.

Let me know if you have any questions. MANY women are told they are going to miscarry and they DON'T! So just take it easy and definitely don't lift anything. Just lay there and let everyone do everything for you until you get some answers. Bleeding in pregnancy does not always signal a problem.

Another question- what does the bleeding look like and how much is there?

my current pregnancy was a threatened abortion/miscarriage till i was 18 weeks. i had severe bleeds and cramps due to bleeding in and under the amniotic sac. they are completely healed now and had my anomaly scan today and all is well. it's not a threatened miscarriage anymore. lots of women are told they're having a threatened miscarriage. the majority go on to have a healthy pregnancy. i hope this turns out to be the case for you.
