ultrasound at 7 weeks no heartbeat seen?

Has some light bleeding so went for an early ultra sound. From my calculations i am 7 weeks exactly which matched with what the sonographer said when looking at the vaginal ultrasound. So hopefully a good sign the baby is the right size? She showed me the screen and said this is your baby which looked like a bean in a sac but said she could not see a heart beat. So to come back in a week for a re-scan!  i am terrified! she didn't explain anything just wait till next week didn't say whether to be worried or not but i am going mad....

Update, things have not gone well over the past couple of days, started to bleed heavily and cramp the day after the scan and have been told its probably a miscarriage, i am devestated waiting to go back to the hospital to see if i need any sort of procedures.. i am so frustrated by the lack of explination/information give to women who at the time when you are most afraid there is no one to help. I rang the EPAU to be told at home to stay at home and take parecetemol with no explination of what to expect and feeling so alone. Thanks!
Thanks guys for your posts

there's a lady on here who's baby's heartbeat wasn't spotted till 9 weeks, so do try not to worry. i know it's easier said than done but just try to keep your mind busy with other things. regarding the bleeding, i've bled seriously loads and had pains and baby's still fine at 17 1/2 weeks so keep positive. best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Yes stay positive! Your doc should though see a heartbeat at 8 weeks, that's when they usually see the heartbeat for the fist time..stay calm and don't think negative!

I went for a scan at just over six weeks and the sonographer said I was measuring 5 weeks (I knew my dates and the conception) and she said she could not see a heartbeat and I would have to come back.  Then just at the end she said, "oh there it is".  Sometimes sonographers get it wrong and miss things, she nearly missed mine, so I wouldn't worry yet!  I'm 31 wks now, so keep positive!!

I've heard that not seeing a heartbeat at 5-7 week scans in normal. The sac wasn't empty and the baby looked to be the correct size for 7 weeks, so I wouldn't worry just yet. I would be calm, and not stress to much about it. Next week when you go in I'm sure everything will be fine.
