If your planning a pregnancy more than 6 mo. from now I'd suggest the new Gardasil (sp?) vaccine to protect against cervical cancer. I think you get one at 1-3-6 mo. or so, and they say not to do it WHEN pregnant.
(I was supposed to get it like 1 mo. before getting pregnant!)
I KNOW I had the chicken pox...a bad case too...and when I was preggo they tested my blood and said that I didn't have the antibodies against it and they can't give the shot to a pregnant woman SOOOO after I had my mc, they advised me to get it....The only way you know what you truly need is to have a blood test run for several items to determine if you have the proper antibodies and then get vaccinated accordingly...I was SHOCKED to find out I had not immunity to chicken pox...I'm a teacher and around kids all the time so I could have gotten it at any point!!! Scary!
If you have never had chicken pox then it would be a good idea to get the vaccine. In adults, chicken pox is usually much worse and can often lead to shingles which can be lifelong.
That is very interesting, i had the mmr last sept, got pregnant in oct and most my baby at 19 weeks due to a chromosone disorder that made my baby have several fatal defects.
I also had to get the MMR after my last baby and was told not to get pregnant within 3 months of taking that vaccine as it could cause birth defects. I haven't had the Chicken Pox either. But I have never been vaccinated for it either. My doctor has never made me but they gave me the MMR after I delivered (in the hospital).
ok thankyou for the message,Ihave just taked the rubella ingection around 1 yr ago before I got married,so better go and check about this chicken pox vaccine to be safe!
I haven't been told to take the chicken pox vaccine. I had the MMR twice when I was younger in school. I got pregnant and had 2 m/c and in the testing my RE did found I wasn't immuned to Rubella, so I had to take MMR again, just as a precaution if I got Rubella while pregnant. I'd just ask your doctor.
