walking

Can walking help prepare the muscles for giving birth? I'm almost 38 weeks and I want to start going for short, not for a long distance or anything, but short walks to try to work my muscles to make them a little stronger so when I give birth they won't be as strained when I pushed (I read something on one of those pregnancy websites about it). But how far would be considered too far? I figure like once around the block might be okay, but scared it'll be too much on the baby. I'm not trying to kick start labor or trying any methods to speed things up, I'm just curious about how far is too far to walk.
