First baby my water randomly broke and I wasn't even in labor. Waited to see if it would start on its own and it didn't so I got pictocin. Only took 30 minutes of pushing and she was out.Start to finish 12 hours. My last baby I went into labor at midnight. Contractions were 3 minutes apart. Labored at home until 2:30 got to the hospital walked for an hour my water broke and I had her within the hour with only 5-10 minutes of pushing. I only pushed twice and she was out. Start to finish little under 6 hours.

First time around early labor lasted days, but from when I had my first hard contraction and headed to the hospital to when baby was born was only 3.5 hours.

Second time early labor lasted about 8 hours at home then same thing one big contraction and we headed to the hospital. Baby was born just under 3 hours after we left the house. The big thing was that I pushed for 45 minutes with the first and only had one and a half pushes with my second she few right out.

With my first, I was in labor for 13 hours and pushed for 1 hour and 20 min. He was coming down crooked, so I think it would have been shorter if it wasn't for that.

With my second, I had pre-term labor and stayed 4cm dilated for a month. When I finally went into labor again at 36 weeks, It was 4 hours from start to finish. I pushed 4 times  in under 10 min. and he was out.

I am pregnant with my third, and nervous it could go even faster this time around. But also keep in mind, that every pregnancy is different like others have said. It could be quick like your first, or it could take a little longer. You just never know.

thank you  thats kinda what im thinking too. there is no other hospital close to me. but thid doctor just seems so busy, ya know i wait to see him for 2 hours and get like 3 minutes of his time. he always seems rushed.. gosh it sure wasnt like that when i had my daughter,, my doctor back then actually called me a home to check on me a few time... seemed like such better care.. my new doctor came so highly reccomended and i find myself so disappointed... i see him again on feb. 22 ill be 36 weeks i think ill be firm with him about my anxiateys and if hes not willing to put me at ease i will find someone else.

In general i think consecutive labours are shorter. If you are really concerned as soon as you feel a twinge of a contraction get to the hospital! At least if its a short labour there should be time to make it there. You never know though, u might go overdie and they have to induce so you will already be at the hospital.

Good luck x

Is there a place closer to you that you could switch to? I was so incredibly anxious and nervous my last pregnancy that I switched to a midwifery group when I was 37 weeks pregnant. I think that you should really look at what is making you anxious and find a compromise or find something that will help ease your worry. If your doctor doesn't "care" then maybe you should look for another doctor. How your doctor cares for you during your prenatal care can speak volumes for how he is in the delivery room. You want an advocate at your side, not an adversary.

with DD i was in hospital, they were gonna induce me in the morning, gave me a gel on cervix to ripen it, set to start pitocin at 6 am. well i feel asleep at 1 am woke up at 2 am with contractions 1 min apart. labored mostly in shower as i was sick from demeral, pushed for 20 min and she came out.. im only nervous cause i moved and we live about an hour away from hospital, new town , new doctor, and he really doesnt seem to care how worried i am about making it to hospital, but he wasnt there for DD. i understand i could go 12 hours this time, but i also understand it could be 50mins, im alot like my mother and her longest labor with 6 hours, and last baby was 45 mins. thats with 4 kids,,  just wish i could put my mind at ease a bit...

1st: no labor-emergency c/section
2nd: 36 hours (pain killers/sedatives slowed labor)
3rd: 7 1/2 hours (natural labor, no meds)
4th: 4 hours (natural labor, epidural)
5th: 8 hours (induced with pitocin, epidural)
6th: 8 hrs 45 min. (induced by breaking water, epidural)

No, mine was not shorter with my second. Each pregnancy and labor is different. Unless your hospital is three hours away I wouldn't worry about it. ;-)

Was your labor with your daughter augmented (as in did the doctor give you Pitocin and break your water and make it progress fast) or did it all happen on its own? That also makes a big difference. Most of the time, however, an augmented labor takes longer than letting your body do what it needs to do.
