Hey there... sorry for your loss.  I have had 2 in a row, but now my husband and I are 26 weeks pregnant with our first :)  Your breastfeeding seems to be quite a hot topic!

Although, personally... I won't be breast feeding our daughter until she is four, my aunt did with my cousin.  She continued to breast feed until she was 4 years old, then stopped because she was going to start kindergarten the following year.  But, my cousin is extemely intelligent.  She skipped 4th grade and going to a UC school.  So, who knows... maybe that extra time she had breastfeeding paid off!

And... who cares what the nurse thinks!  As long as your child's pediatrician is ok with it and you are, that's what matters.  Good luck with your bleeding... I don't have any suggestions, but thought I would comment :)

I'm all for breast feeding, but 4?? Do with what your comfortable of course, but everything I have learned that at age 4 there is no benifit of breat milk to your child. So to continue to do it is a bit contravercial, but to each their own I guess. It's your family. I would just be leary of doing it too much longer for fear of emotional trauma as she gets a little older.

Thanks for writing this again :)
Wow your bleeding after your baby was born 9 weeks ago? Did you find out why? Hopefully you'll get some answers on that one. Ohhh the topic of breastfeeding why are some people so against it.....that angers me so much!!!!!! I guess the best thing you can do it ignore the nurse or let her know that breast milk is the best thing for your children. I honestly think that you are doing a great thing by breastfeeding you other two children still. Good job!!!!

As for you still bleeding I have no idea why your still bleeding because I've been told (don't know if it's true) that breastfeeding stops your period. Anyway hope you find out why your still bleeding after 9 weeks. And keep up with the breastfeeding your giving your children the best milk possible. I'm happy to see other breastfeeding mothers out there, I'm one too :)

Hey Neasyc-  Have you asked, or have the doctor check you to make sure your not anemic?  I know when someone bleeds for a long period of time, it could cause some anemicy...  And if that was the case, that would explain the bleeding.  Just a thought though!

Hehe I always like to rule out everything when I get concerned!  So thought i'd run that by ya.

=)

my older kids dont have that much mostly just before bed at night i asked my doc today and she said the bleeding was not linked to the feeding as after my first child i bleed for 14 weeks and was only feeding one 7 weeks after my second so she thinks it just me i have seen another post on here about bleeding this ling so im not the only one thanks for your advice

I don't think its weird at all to breastfeed for a longer period of time.  However, I think that feeding 3 children at the same time could cause you too much stress to your body.  Perhaps that's why you are bleeding so much.  Breastmilk production is a demand and supply kind of thing so if the demand is high (from 3 kids) then you will produce more milk.  Producing more milk increases the ammount of hormones in your body which may be what's causing the bleeding.
I think and I may be wrong, that you are only suppossed to BF one or two babies at most.

to me, GIVING them breastmilk at 4 isn't weird, in fact, it's pretty cool you're able to do so. Having them on the breast to get the milk is still kinda is weird to me, but who am I to judge, ya know ? :) My friend and I were discussing what the odds are if humans were to continue to drink our OWN milk instead of milk of another species if that would help in the medical realm or not - like our health over-all, ya know? I don't think any child is truly capable of fully self-weaning though. They will constantly use it because it is security so you will actually really have to be the one to cut it off. But again, that is entirely up to you and when you feel they need to.
My response to that nurse would've been "Well, that's nice for your niece/nephew, but if you care to notice, this is a completely different little human here. No one child is the same case. You of all people as a nurse should know that."  but then again, I'm the type that pops off at the mouth. LOL.

I think breastfeeding is great but I think 4 years is very weird and almost inappropriate in some days.  I think that the 2 year old isn't as bad but still... And I guess since it's not done in public it's a little better.  I just think it is weird.  I know I would't never even give a 4 year old a bottle.  It is all persoanl choice thought and that is fine.  I know my personal choice is that with my children I will breastfeed as long as I can but no longer than a year and my children will be off of bottles no longer than 2 years.  But if it works for you, go for it just as Laura said. That was just my opinion.  Good Luck.

I think breastfeeding sadly continues to remain a taboo in North American Society.  And that's a shame.  The Canadian Pediatrics Society recommends you breast feed your child up until 2 years of age and/or until they self wean.  You are your child's Mother and you know what is best for them.  I say Go For It!!  And ignore that Nurse!!!
p.s. My good friend still breast feeds and when people question her she just quotes her Doctor.

I say do what you are comfortable with..

I just would never personally choose to breast feed that long! I think it's weird to breastfeed  a child that A.) has teeth and  B.)that can talk and eat solid regular food.. I have never ever heard of it! But that doesnt mean I am right, just different than you! = D

Good luck! =)

You know I forgot to say this earlier, I know quite a few people who breastfed until their kids were two, or a little over!  I see nothing wrong with it!  like you said, as long as your family is happy, and healthy!  And your kids sound healthy!!!  =)

neasyc - Firstly don't take anything to heart what this nurse said.  You are doing everything fine that works for you!  Heck if I had the patience lol I would have kept breastfeeding my kids past 1 year, but my boobs got so freaking big with back to back pregnancies, that it felt like i have two giant beach balls in my shirt!!

But...  MORE POWER TO YOU!!!  =)

My kids crawl in bed with me when their sick, or i'll climb in bed with them, they actually will ask us to lay with them to help them sleep!  =)  A lot of people have a difference in opinion and will judge before they know circustances, so no worries!  just blow it off!

Hmm. I don't really know what to say. I think breastfeeding is personal, but I also think 2 and 4 is WAY too old to still be breastfeeding. If it works for you, more power to you, but I think most people would think that is very odd, just to be honest with you.. I know I do.

I don't know anyone who has breastfed longer than 9-12 months..
