mid wife said could have a early birth because of how fast baby growing or something i dont get how? what cause prem birth how can it be stoped and is anything i do or dont no be the thing that brings it on?? how do you no if its happening or whatever as you can tell bit confuced and dont get what could bring on prem birth and how do i now if it started x
there are many things that can cause preterm labor, such as smoking during pregnancy, IUD's, etc...I dont know that having a baby that is growing fast would cause preterm labor. but here are some signs to look for:
contractions: Braxton hicks contractions are practice contractions and are your body's way of becoming stronger for true labor. they can feel much like period cramps, and often will harden a portion of your tummy, whereas true labor contractions typically harden your whole stomach. if you experience more than 5 contractions in an hour, phone your midwife. If you are experiencing a lot, you can try to empty your bladder, make sure you are hydrated, and if you are sitting down, get up and walk, and vise versa. False labor will stop 100% of the time if you do these things; true labor will not.
mucous plug: if you notice an increase in discharge, or blood tinged discharge, you could be losing your mucous plug or experiencing bloody show. if you are not yet full term (37 weeks) then you should phone your midwife. however, don't panic if this happens...just call if you are believed to be at risk for preterm labor. women can lose their mucous plug and not go into labor for weeks.
leaking of fluid: sometimes we can confuse wet underwear for leakage of urine or watery discharge....if you ever have a question about fluid in your underwear, smell it (gross i know) but amniotic fluid has a very light, sweet smell. whereas if its urine it will smell like ammonia. your water can break and only have a very small tear in the bag, which will cause a slow leak.
if you DO go into preterm labor, it can be stopped if caught early enough. there are several medications that can be given to stop contractions. definitely phone the midwife if you believe you could be experiencing preterm labor. steroid injections can also be given to help speed up the maturity of the baby's lungs. also if you are having a girl, they tend to fare better than boys when born premature.
A fast growing baby causing pre-term labor? That is ridiculous. Many women have huge babies (10 lbs and up) at like 42 weeks after having to be induced because their bodies wouldn't go into labor on their own.
If your blood pressure is high or you have other things as the previous commenter listed then pre-term labor may be a possibility.
Pre eclampsia caused me to be induced at 36 weeks. I was feeeling sick; went to the hospital and my blood pressure was extremely high so i was induced.. my baby is now 11 weeks@and is healthy...
There are lots of reasons why a woman can go into preterm labor. My sister went into labor cuz she stood up and had a large amount of blood that pouref out of her. She hemmoraged. She went into labor at 24 weeks.. unfortunately, her baby survived only 3 weeks. She weighed 1lb 11 ozs at birth.
I would get more information before panicing and getting scared...
hey i was and still im a little confucesed how i may have early birth?? they said was that the baby growing fast and because i have had problems with BH and also they keep thinking a membrain was gone and i was leaking if you no what i mean? but they said the baby is growing fast so could be an early baby because of the probs i have had and the way he growing but i think im same size as anyone else at 23 weeks :-S how is he growing fast just got me worried because i dont wont to lose this pregnancy as had 2 misscarries befor and he my miracle baby so i so worried after the mid wife saying i may have an early birth and dose she mean really early or after 30 weeks? i just dont get what to think i also because getting a lot of leg cramps at night and pains in belly is this normal? x
I really think you need to get a second opinion from a different dr or midwife... Like said above a big baby does not cause early labor... My cousin had a 11 pound baby and had to ha a c section cause they wernt able to get labor going.... Are you leaking fluid? BH are very normal and nothing to be worried about unless they get stronger and/or more consistant.... I have a couple a day and I am 21 weeks.... With my first pregnancy I had a ridiculous amount of BH but I didn't have him till 37 weeks.... I would really urge you to get a different care giver
They can easily check to see if you're leaking fluid. I would be wary of any doctor who say's they "think" a membrane is gone and you're leaking. A large baby doesn't mean pre-term labour, neither do BH. When you have an ultrasound (which you should have) they have your babies estimated weight and a percentile you can ask for. That would give you a better idea of how your baby compares to others. The only time BH become a real concern is if you have more than 4-6 an hour that don't change with movement or changing your activity. Leg cramps are normal as the baby is starting to put more pressure down on your lower body. As the pregnancy progresses the pain will more than likely get a little stronger. I agree that you definitely need to look into getting a new doctor though.
thank you i think i may tranfer hospitals becuase im really not happy with the care im getting and being told i could go in prem labour when clearly by what your saying is wrong! it makes me angry because i have had 2 misscarries so worry something bad going to happen anyways but to be told that what really got me worried is out of order (i fort it was a bit funny and didnt understand what she ment by it so thank you for your help) im going to see my proper midwife at my doctors down the road (the other mid wife was from the hospital that i was seeing as they check me regaly due to other pregnancy loses but i will be asking midwife to change hospitals or is it to late to do that? im 23 nearly 24 weeks? or do i still have time to change? thanks again i feel alot better after speaking to you lot x(WHERE DOSE THIS MIDWIFE GET OFF WORRYING PEOPLE!)
