what position is the best to lay in?

I was just informed yesterday that lying on my back could be bad for baby and when im playing a game or watching tv i like lying on my back but when i go to bed i sleep on my right or left side. i also like laying on my stomach but i havent been lately because i didnt know if it was ok for the baby.
So is it ok to lay on my stomach or back? If no then why? Im mostly just wondering but id like to know so i dont hurt my baby

I think I was around 18-20 weeks when I really started to notice my back wasn't as comfortable anymore. Everyone is probably a little different. You will know when it is time to switch to your side when it gets too uncomfortable. I would give anything to sleep on my back right now...52 more days!

From a moms point of view, pressure on those veins can also cause vericose veins to worsen...something we all want to avoid. ;-)

General rule of thumb...if it is not uncomfortable, you are probably fine. As you get further along, obviously your belly will become less comfortable to lay on. The concern with back laying is as your uterus grows & gets heavier, it will begin to put pressure on the large veins that return blood to your heart from your lower body. This is uncomfortable, can make you feel nausious, short of breath, disrupts your circulation and makes it less efficient, which could eventually affect the amount of oxygen the placenta receives. Your body generally will tell you it is uncomfortable causing you to move before that point. You don't say how far along you are, but I would enjoy back sleeping while you can. Sleeping on your sides is recommended (left more so than right, but either are fine) because it doesn't put pressure on those veins.
