I was induced with my first because the doctor offered to do it, and I liked the idea of the convenience of the set date just before having to take my college finals so I wouldn't miss those. I was young and didn't know of any benefits or risks with induction; I just trusted going with my OB's suggestions.
With my second, I was also induced, but for entirely different reasons. I had suffered through severe episodes of pre-term labor and three hospitalizations from 33-35 weeks, then I was heavily medicated and on bed rest until 37 weeks to make sure my baby would get to full term. By the time I was off the medications and bed rest, it was like my body had been so drugged up and through so much physical stress for so long that I was in pain and could hardly get up to walk. It felt like everything from my mid-back to my hip joints would crumble and my muscles were really weakend due to heavy doses of magnesium sulfate when I was hospitalized. So...my pregnancy lingered into 38 weeks and I was so miserable and in so much pain that when my OB offered to induce me at 38 weeks, I was all for it--it was like it couldn't be offered fast enough.
I'm currently pregnant with my third (9 weeks) and I'm hoping I can go into labor on my own this time.
ok thank you all very much! i knew medical reasons was one of the reasons that could have woman induced i just wasnt sure if woman just choose to be induced for other reasons
I technically was induced even though I went into labor on my own. My water broke, and I was contracting just not dilating. So mine was for medical reasons. It resulted in a c section, so I've had c sections since.
I was induced with my first bc there was no sign of me going into labor at all. With my daughter the dr just set it up for me to be induced on my due date. With this one im actually thinking im going to go into labor on my own seeing how this baby is very different the my last two,but we shall see ill be 16 weeks tomorrow.
Some women have to be induced for medical reasons. I was induced because I was high risk and past due with my first DD.
