Well first you need to be pregnant and your doctor has to make that call. And in the USA it is a prescription so you cannot get it over the counter. My progesterone pills costs me almost $40 after insurance. Before insurance it would've been $200.

The reason I miscarried my last pregnancy is because my doctor wouldn't give me the supplements until it was too late. So I switched back to my former doctor and talked to him about my concerns. He told me I could start taking my leftover progesterone pills as soon as I got a positive test at home.

It's all about communication. You can't just demand them. Your doctor needs to test your progesterone levels first and then make the call.

Some women take progesterone during early pregnancy (up to week 10-12) if they have low progesterone or if they took fertility medications while trying to get pregnant. The reason being that progesterone helps keep the uterine lining from thinning out. If your progesterone begins to drop, it is dropping for 2 reasons:

1). You need supplements because your body isn't producing enough on its own.

2). Miscarriage is inevitable and progesterone supplements will delay the miscarriage process.

So next time you get pregnant you can have them check your progesterone levels. Anything over 20 is GOOD. But if they drop, especially below 15 it means you need supplements. You may still miscarry but at least you've tried everything you can. Or you may end up with a healthy baby in 9 months.
