**Update** I never got a chance to make it to the doctor. I started having sharp pains in my back & stomach. I finally got my period, but I usually have light cycles. This time is it extremely heavy & I am having huge clots. Could this have been a MC? My doctor wants me to come in next week to see exactly what's going on. Thanks!

Week 5

About one week after your missed period, your pregnancy will be visible on ultrasound. At this point, it is a small fluid collection called a gestational sac. It is just 2/10 of an inch in diameter and lies within the lining of the uterus known as the deciduas.  Even though the baby is still too small to see, this first visual proof of the developing pregnancy is very exciting!

Week 6

A week later, the baby is finally visible on ultrasound... At this point, it appears as a tiny oval blip approximately a tenth of an inch in length (about the width of a sunflower seed). The regular flicker of a heartbeat is first visible on the screen.

Weeks 7 to 10

The most striking change over the next two to three weeks is the appearance of identifiable human features. The baby now has recognizable parts, such as head, body, arms and legs. The umbilical cord is also present. Although human features are present, the proportion is much different than it will be when your baby is born. The head is large in relation to the trunk, and the arms and legs are short and flipper-like. At nine weeks, your baby will be 9/10 of an inch in length–about the size of a grape. The baby is also quite active at this stage, but you won't be able to feel any movements for at least 10 more weeks.

hope this helps :)

Key things to remember about hCG levels:

   * In a bout 85% of normal pregnancies, the hCG level will double every 48 - 72 hours. As you get further along in pregnancy and the hCG level gets higher, the time it takes to double can increase to about every 96 hours.
*Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.
*An hCG level of less than 5mIU/ml is considered negative for pregnancy, and anything above 25mIU/ml is considered positive for pregnancy.
*The hCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/ml).
   * A transvaginal ultrasound should be able to show at least a gestational sac once the hCG levels have reached between 1,000 - 2,000mIU/ml. Because levels can differentiate so much and conception dating can be wrong, a diagnosis should not be made by ultrasound findings until the hCG level has reached at least 2,000.
*A single hCG reading is not enough information for most diagnoses. When there is a question regarding the health of the pregnancy, multiple testings of hCG done a couple of days apart give a more accurate assessment of the situation.
*The hCG levels should not be used to date a pregnancy since these numbers can vary so widely.
*There are two common types of hCG tests. A qualitative hCG test detects if hCG is present in the blood. A quantitative hCG test (or beta hCG) measures the amount of hCG actually present in the blood.

I think the best thing for you to do is get a repeat u/s done this will provide you with a much more accurate way of dating how far along you are...let your Dr know about your concerns and have him/her explain things to you until you get a better understanding after all that's what they get paid for...good luck and hope you can relax a bit and get some clear answers...take care

I'd call em back and tell them you want to be seen now. It's only a few days, and wouldn't make a difference really. If you're already late, there is NO reason to wait.

I called my doctor but the nurse told me to wait until it's been over 1 month since my period was supposed to come on. That mean I have to wait until Augst 4 or 6 before going to see my doctor to figure out what's wrong.

Right now you would be around 8-9 weeks pregnant. hCG levels are only useful in saying if a pregnancy is viable or not, and even then you would need multiple draws. Are you having another ultrasound done? If not, you need another done in a week, as well as another blood draw to see what your levels are doing.

@Tired--If you suspect you're pregnant, you need to see a doctor. By now you should be getting an accurate answer on a test. Because hCG doubles every 48 hours in a viable pregnancy, and tests can pick up a reading as low as 8, it's doubtful yours would be too low.

When did you find out you were pregnant? Because my LMP was June 4, 2011, but I am getting negative test results. I was thinking that my HCG might be too low to test yet. Thanks!

Thank you for answering question but I still do not understand that chart and if you could help me it would be great. My lmp was june/1/11 but my hcg was 1084.50. Also they have done a ultrasound on me but they couldnt see much more than a cystic looking area that could represent a gestation sac . Please Help!

Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:

hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :

    *3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
    *4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml
    *5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml
    *6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml
    *7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml
    *9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml
    *13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml
    *17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml
    *25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml
    *Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
    *Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

* These numbers are just a GUIDELINE-- every woman’s level of hCG can rise differently. It is not necessarily the level that matters but rather the change in the level.

hCG levels do not indicate how far along you are. Use your LMP until you can get an ultrasound that shows gestational age.
