Birth class??

Did anyone take one? If so, do you feel it was a benefit? I'm 37 weeks today so I guess it's a little late in the game.

I'm going to take a breastfeeding class and the pregnancy class. I'm a FTM and neither of us (husband and I) have been around young  children or in the L&D section of the hospital. So even if i don't get a tun of info, I feel any is better than none. But then again we are the kinda people that are always over prepared.  Lol

I'm planning natural birth so I am signed up for natural birth classes with my husband to learn how to handle the pain and labour, useful positions, birth ball, shower and bath, breathing, massage, yoga, scents, etc. It apparently also included the hospital tour and basic important information about pregnancy and how to care for baby after birth. Also taking the breastfeeding classes. Ftm here and can't imagine not taking classes first. But I'm the type of person who reads every instruction manual cover to cover before taking the rest of the stuff out of the box. ;)

I'm in the same boat. I'm only 23 weeks and asked my mom about it and she said that they coach you through everything during delivery anyways. So for me, I'm probably not going to do it. Maybe read up about it and stuff just to get some information. To each their own, good luck :).

Thanks ladies. Doesn't really sound like I need it. This is my first pregnancy, huge surprise! However, I have 4 kids that I adopted out of foster care so I've been a mommy since 2009. A few people have asked me what I'm gonna do since I haven't taken the classes. My response has been that I assume my body will figure it out lol

I never did take one. I meant to with my first but she came early and I never had a chance. I am now pregnant with my fourth. I'm not sure what you would learn in a birthing class, and whether it would include information about care after the birth. I could see that being really helpful to a first time mum. I realized after I was emergency induced with my first that your body really does know what to do,  and the nurses are so helpful.

My sister did a ton of planning and attended classes where they were encouraged to make a very specific birthing plan. She ended up having an emergency c section and is still really upset that it didn't go the way it was supposed to.

So, basically, what I'm trying to say is it can't hurt to attend and gain some knowledge if you don't have close friends or family with kids. But, manage your expectations, I guess?

That's about the time I also went. Honestly, I'm a 1st time mom and I havent babysat or changed a baby ever and for me the class was very disappointing for my man and me. We didn't get much from it. Only common sence..... but I do know that other expecting friends enjoyed and learned a bit of new stuff so it can totally depend on the instructor and what program. I went through "Better Babies" :-/
