Can I use hydrogen peroxide as mouth wash in pregnancy?

I have periodontal disease and dentist wont perform the root planing and scaling until second trimester. There is a small area behind my upper front tooth that is very swollen and hurts a lot. I already had an abscess and a tooth pulled because of infection and I don't want to go through that again. He says I should wait but I don't want to loose my teeth either. I read that hydrogen peroxide helps with possible infection and sore gums. Is it safe to use as mouthwash during pregnancy? I don't want to use the chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash since its not in the safest category of medications and I don't want to hurt my baby but I don't know if waiting with this disease will also be bad for baby. I am 9 weeks.
Any help will be appreciated.Thank you

Chlorhex is way less damaging than hydrogen peroxide. You should never put hydrogen peroxide on s cut unless there is debris in it. Hydrogen peroxide actually damages white blood cells and lessen the path to healing.  Chlorhexidine sol. Is not systemic so it won't absorb in to your blood stream. Just be sure to rinse well w h2o after to avoid swallowing.

Also the chlorhexidine rinse does work well but I wouldn't use it being pregnant at least not until the second trimester and probably not even then. So much is absorbed into the body through the mouth. Even if you dont swallow it.

Look for peroxyl it is a mouth wash made with hydrogen peroxide it should be perfectly safe to use while pregnant or just use hydrogen peroxide mixed with water the peroxyl has a minty flavor. You can use it twice a day. Try sensodyne toothpaste you can use it all the time. And of course floss if you dont already if you find it difficult to floss there is floss with handles and they also make these proxy brushes that go in between the teeth which are amazing! Having worked as a dental assistant the dentist is correct in waiting until your second trimester a lot of bacteria will be brought up with the root planning and scaling which could bring bacteria to the placenta and baby. I would ask both your obgyn and dentist if you need antibiotics before the root planning as a precaution. Most times its not necessary but because you are pregnant it is worth asking about. You would take one dose an hour before your appt.

As long as your not swallowing it I don't think it would hurt the baby since you can use it to clean cuts on your hands ect

i'd use what the dentist recommended - you want will work best, an infection would be dangerous - then you would have to take more drugs
