Flagyl while pregnant to treat BV?

I hate the thought of taking medicines while pregnant. So it is category B... so what it didn't show adverse reactions in mice?  I think the human body is more complex than that. And does anyone know what would happen if I decide not to treat thr BV at all. Im already 30 weeks pregnant. Thanks

Krysmichelle I hope you finished them even though you were better! Its always important to finish all prescribed antibiotics, even if you appear/ feel better

I had it and was prescribed the same I didn't even take all the pills before it was gone its safer to just take the pills bv untreated can lead to other infections which treatment may not be safe for baby

Bebe you are right Thats really the only concern is that it may backtrack up into my uterus. It would be a oral antibiotic. From the research Ive done it doesnt make a difference when treated in the case of preterm labor. For some reason even women that treated it still had the same incidence in preterm labor. Usually occuring in the second trimester. I also know BV is quite common. So im sure we would know if it was causing a lot of bad outcomes... It just *****!! I also have a yeast infection.,, so I need that treated. And BV usually isnt contagious,,, It is just a overgrowth of the same bacteria that i already present in a normal vagina... Oh well I guess I dont have a choice ):

They test in mice because their systems are very similar to ours. They can contract the same diseases and their immune systems react in similar ways. The second risk of leaving a vaginal infection is that it can backtrack up into your uterus causing premature delivery and other complications.

When they do animal studies they actually pick animals that have very similar systems to ours, you'd be surprised to find out how fee differences there actually are. Flagyl is considered pretty safe at a category B and if you don't treat there could be potential issues should you have a vaginal delivery, don't forget baby is exposed to everything down there on its way out
