For already mums- breastfeeding

Hi ladies! Just needing some advice, my baby girl is 8 days old today and I have been breastfeeding her Aswell as pumping but I honestly can't do it anymore.. I have inverted nipples so it's hard for me to feed her, I use nipple sheilds that help and my pump ***** my nipples out so I am able to feed her but it is so painful I literally cry.. So I've decided to swap to formula so I can give her enough milk and not be in pain.. My question is, how do I make my breasts stop making milk? If I just leave them will they get mastitis? I'm so confused as to how I need to stop.. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Sounds strange but wrap them in cabbage leaves. It will also help with the pain from gorging.

I agree with tigereyes and I also gave the same thing.  I breastfed both of my girls even with blisters on my nipples. After two weeks they healed and everything was fine. The benefits of breastfeeding are so good for baby. I commend you for trying even if you decide to stop those 8 days helped your little one more than you know. If you truly want to stop go with the cabbage and a tight bra. It'll hurt the first few days, but they will begin to dry up.

I know you said you want to quit  breastfeeding but I encourage you to stick with it. I also have inverted nipples and would cry because of the pain. My nipples were sore and bleeding for the first few weeks. After a few days the scanned but I kept  up with feeding and pumping. I would pu medela nipple cream on several times a day. After about 2 weeks my nipples were completely healed and never hurt after that. It takes time for the nipples to toughen up. Breastfeeding isn't easy but it does get easier. You have to be tough. If you still decide that it's not for you, you will need to keep breastfeeding or pumping and just cut back on it everyday. If you just stop doing it all together you will end up wirh blocked ducts which will be very painful.

Don't try to just leave your milk in there you have to slowly reduce your extractions just like you are weaning a child off the breast

Avoid hot showers or bath just have them at a warm temperature. Cold compresses on them can relief the pain and believe it or not cold cabbage leaves inside your bra can also help loads. I myself have no tried this method but loads of my friends have, my midwife told me about it and also lots of ladies on here have done.x

You can get natural herbal products that help you stop. We've got something called "milk stop" here.

Good on you for giving it a go!
