That's what it's for...just chromosomes. There are 3 kinds of Down Syndrome types that they look for. As previously stated, during the ultrasound they look at the thickness of the skin on the back of the neck...whether it's thick or transparent. They will do another one at 15-18 weeks as well. And 6 tubes of blood isn't bad at all. I've had a difficult pregnancy; extreme nausea and dehydration. I've counted a total of 26 tubes that they took from me in the first 13 weeks! But for the chromosome test, after the ultrasound they just prick your finger and get 3-6 drops of blood.
Does anyone know what else they check for?
They also check the bridge of the nose.
Okay. Thanks. Wish they could have used one of the 6 tubes of blood they took at the 1st appt!! Lol
Well I just got my ultrasound for down syndrome and they just checked how big the back of the neck was and then blood work. Not sure about other genetic testing though. :)
