Healthy Eating

Does anyone else have trouble eating healthy while pregnant? I have noticed that ever since I found out I literally eat whatever I want and I'm paying for it with new stretch marks and weight gain! I really want to start eating healthier for me and mostly for the baby. Does anyone have any healthy eating suggestions?

I'm having trouble stomaching fresh veggies.  Just the thought of them makes me cringe so I've been drinking lots of fruit and vegetable juices.

I find it pretty hard. The best way I've found that helps is to start the day with a green smoothie - rocket, kale, avocado, banana, brown rice protein powder, 3 strawberries, plain yoghurt and a bit of milk (you can vary it to what you want). Anyway if I ate what I wanted I'd live on sugary cereal, battered fish n chips, spaghetti bolognaise and chocolate. So I find having a good start makes me more likely to eat healthy the rest of the day too...I make my lunch into a salad - like I would pick on leftover chicken and a few olives for lunch and binge on chocolate soon after whereas now I will dump all of that (minus chocolate) into a bowl with baby spinach and rocket and grate a carrot into it and add dressing and cheese. Then I only need a tea to get me by in the afternoon instead of chocolate. Anyway I don't always do this, but they're the main two things that have seriously upped my vegie intake when I actually get off my butt and do them.

I thought I was eating healthy until the hospital got me to see a dietitian. I was shocked to find out I was supposed to be eating 2.5cups of vegetables a day whether I was pregnant or not. I was eating vegetables but definitely not that much. I now use a foid journal app and make sure I get enough serves of vegetables, fruits, dairy, grains, and protein. I've learnt a lot this pregnancy and will probably keep it up when bub is born.

Substitution is what I've found to help make better choices. For example I try to keep a variety of fruit in the house to help with those cravings for something sweet.I just dip it in Nutella or peanut butter.  It helps me to just not have the unhealthy food in the house. (I would have to drive at least 45 min to go get it from the store, so 90% of to the time I'll settle for what i have at home.) I do splurge about once a week and go get whatever it is I've been wanting though.  It's a give and take situation.  Lol
