Iron pills?

How important is taking iron pills. I take my prenatal vitamins but skip on taking the iron. Any other moms have a problem with iron pills.

It matters of you are anemic or prone to anemia. Talk to your doctor. Fortunately a low iron state dose don't directly harm the baby. She/he will preferentially use your iron stores.

Unlike folate which is associated with fetal defects if low in the 1 st trimester. I too only take a folate pill. No iron, but I track my diet. Spinach meat etc. I use my fitness pal to ***** the other major vitamins. Food is the best source for some nutrients as they are better absorbed.

If you are anemic iron supplementation is crucial.

Im on iron tablets but my iron level is 10.8 which isnt low but they want mine higher as havin a second cesarean in 19days. They make me feel really really nauseous and seeing as im still being sick I dont take them everyday. I know my baby is fine so im not too worried bout iron levels I guess it depends on how low yours is xx

Iron is important but the amount in most prenatals makes me severely constipated. So I take a regular multi vitamin that has 50% iron and get the rest of my iron from food - like spinach, meat and alot of grains. I take a separate folic acid supplement because folic acid is super important and most multis don't have it in them. Unless you're anemic, then that is probably ok for you to do too. But I would still ask your dr first.

Very important.  I have to take them 3 times a day because my iron is so low. It's a little harsh on the stomach but we'll worth it, it's for the well being of the baby and yourself.
